Fans of the Dexter series can experience a real swing of moods today. First, the series Dexter: New Blood was canceled , and then a new title about the title character was announced. Will we see Young Dexter in production ?
Although the creators never announced that work on the next batch of Dexter: New Blood episodes was in progress , fans could expect these to be made anyway. The series was hugely popular and gained a lot of positive reviews from critics. Meanwhile, it was decided to cancel the series. However, the creators do not intend to completely give up the hero and announce a different path. We’ll probably get a story about Dexter Morgan’s past.
The “Young Dexter” idea is apparently just one of several considered by Showtime , although no other examples were given in the station’s report. As fans will remember, there were many flashbacks in the original Dexter series where we could see his adoptive father Harry training him to be a serial killer. Thanks to the new title, we could take a closer look at this process.
The main reason why Dexter: New Blood was so successful was certainly the return of Michael C. Hall to the lead role. The series averaged over 8 million viewers per episode, quickly making it the most-watched title in Showtime history. Thus, one may wonder if Young Dexter would be created, would there be a place for Hall in it? The man himself said in a recent interview with Lipps Service:
I’ve learned never to say never. At the moment, the series has ended in a definitive way and there is no question of any renewal. I don’t have any Dexter dates marked on my calendar. At the same time, I feel proud of all this and I’m happy to be back in production and this character. I’d say we gave the show the kind of ending it needed. What will happen next remains to be seen. For now, I’m fine with being free.
So we have to wait for more information from the developers.
