The news about the rejection of the continuation of the production reached the fans a year after the premiere of the first season. It is not entirely clear why the show was dropped, but it is likely due to delays and financial issues – the Dark Crystal did not make the expected profits and proved to be a financial disappointment for Netflix. However, the platform did not take any position on this matter. The show’s producer Lisa Henson thanked viewers in a special statementensuring that she and the team will search for a way to end the story. It is an unpleasant situation for fans because the first season ended with the so-called a cliff-hanger, the explanation of which, unfortunately, will not wait. The statement was also published by Netflix itself, thanking for their cooperation and congratulating the team for recently winning an Emmy Award. Its screenwriter Javier Grillo-Marxuach also referred to the cancellation of the production in a short entry on Twitter.
