In recent times, apart from Space Match 2 , there have been few full-length Looney Tunes movies. It’s time for this to change and Warner Bros. tries to unleash nostalgia.
Something new, something old
In the 90s, the TV series Sylwester i Tweety na tropie was hosted on TV screens, telling about the adventures of a black cat, yellow canary, Hector’s dog and Grandma, who loved styling straight from the nineteenth-century America. The scheme of each episode was that all this dysfunctional family traveled around the world and tried to solve criminal mysteries, mainly regarding the disappearance of valuable items. The first season presented really beautiful animation frames, while the subsequent ones were characterized by rather little attention to detail. Except, of course, the main characters themselves.
Why am I writing about it? The latest title from Warner Bros. Animation is nothing more than an attempt to revive the idea that appeared in the minds of the creators from the house of Bugs Bunny. When the Queen of the Canary Islands disappears under unknown circumstances, it turns out that Tweety is the next heir to the royal dynasty. Of course, before he could sit down on the throne, he would have to face an internal threat. Before the screening, it is worth getting acquainted with the history of the names of this archipelago, as it can provide a lot of interesting tips. A huge plus for creators for verbal fun.
The style of the animation is slightly different from the classic character designs, but not in a way that would excessively affect the fan-audience experience, and as a whole, the animation still looks pretty good, although slightly different from what we are used to. has been practically remodeled and closer to animals from the Simpsons, which should not surprise anyone, because there has been a long-standing trend to give “adult lines” to well-known characters, which is sparing in detail and emphasizes the goofy facial expressions quite well.
It is really advantageous to show a kind of classic relationship known from short films between a cat and a canary. In fact, every couple in the Looney Tunes world is different. What distinguishes our heroes is the fact that, in fact, they can get along, and the issue that separates them is Grandma’s favors of birds and the eternal hunger of cats.
Not a very royal edition
Am I glad this movie was released with us? Absolutely, I am a huge Looney Tunes fan and would be disappointed not to enjoy this new adventure in their world. However, why did Warner choose to release this movie on DVD , since it is intended for the HBO MAX platform (the title board itself in the menu indicates “max original”). It is a bit as if someone treated the Polish consumer worse and tried to get more money from him.
I also have some reservations about the release itself. First of all, why is there no Polish dubbing in the family film, addressed mainly to the youngest audience, where the voices of Lucyna Malec and Włodzimierz Press are so characteristic that without them all this fairy-tale magic does not make sense? So what if we have a lector, since he sets a uniform tone to the characters. Such a solution in the case of animated, brutal DC films has its justification, but the voice of the character in such full-length films as Tweety Królis the basis. It’s good that we have Polish subtitles and the original sound to choose from. On the other hand, a few episodes of the series from the 90s about the canary and the black cat are a very pleasant surprise. But why without the Polish dubbing, which, as we know, exists, and the episodes with Polish dubbing were broadcast on Boomerang, Plus 2 or Canal +, for example?
The Tweety King DVD release is a musthave for all Looney Tunes fans . There are many publishing flaws here, but you should not miss the opportunity to complete your bookcase with such a noble duo as Sylwester and his yellow “brother”.
