Sudden time zone change syndrome
Jet lag is bothersome symptoms that we experience during long journeys. The root cause is a disturbance of homeostasis in the body – the biological clock, metabolism, hormones such as melatonin and cortisol are out of balance, which leads to a deterioration of the well-being of the traveler. It seems to me that the author of the game – Eric Flumian – by deciding on this title of the proposal, wanted to point out that during the game, participants may experience jet lag -like symptoms . But is that good? Is this what we expect from a card game? Let’s take a closer look at the title!
Show me what’s inside
In a small box there are 50 cards with Stivo pictures and instructions. A 30-second hourglass is also included, but – beware! – there is no space for it in the box, it should be kept separately (which is a bit cumbersome). The preparation of the game takes a relatively short time: we shuffle the cards, put the hourglass on the table and divide the players into two or three teams. The player-storyteller takes the card from which he reads the question to the first person on his team, his partner. A player on the opposing team sits next to the storyteller and checks that the answers are correct during the game. The narrator continues reading: Reveal categories first, then questions. We reverse the hourglass and the partner uses the time to answer.
The goal of the game is to score as many points as possible by correctly answering the questions. There is one catch: we always answer the previous question, not the one that was just asked, i.e. when the narrator asks the second question, the partner answers the first one, when he asks the third, answers the second, etc. A wrong answer or sand in the hourglass means the team is defeated . The number of points awarded to a team depends on the level achieved by the partner. It is worth noting that a variant for three people is also possible (in total, the game can be played by 3 to 8 players aged 12+).
Too confusing?
The rules of the game seem a bit complicated, but I can assure you that everything will be very simple after the first round. It is a good idea to prepare a piece of paper in advance, on which you can note down the team points earned in each round. Jetlag is an interesting party proposition for young and old. The categories are simple, eg When does this day fall, questions also – Today, Midsummer, Labor Day; the biggest difficulty is choosing the right answer – November 11, May 1, December 25, Today’s date, etc. The game is compact, so you can easily take it on small trips – for example, to the water or for a picnic, but remember that the hourglass should be packed separately ( it is easy to damage, so a small bag or box would be useful).
All in all, Jetlag is a game with an intriguing, maybe a bit vague title – party, compact and fun. On the other hand, publishers did not take care of a larger box into which to put an hourglass, and a small notebook for writing the results would also be useful. I also regret that the illustrations are only found on the box and on the instruction sheets.
