Recently, a Deadline journalist caught up with  The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin to talk about what fans can expect from season two. In particular, Mazin seems to realize that fans had a problem with the lack of infected in the first season. They are a huge threat in the game and only have one or two sequences to shine throughout the first season. He noted that you intend to continue to use the modern technology that they bring the infected to life to better deliver scenes with these types of characters.

We certainly intend to push the technology we use as well. We learned a lot, especially regarding the infected and how to better deliver scenes with them. So we’re just going to keep moving the bar up and up and up. It’s kind of our call to arms.

Mazin said

Human enemies play a bigger role in the second game because it’s more of a revenge story where we fight different factions. They are still infected and there is one very key action with a scary monster. However, depending on how the creators play it, this sequence may not appear until the third season.
