The most popular gaming magazine in Poland is still trying to find its place in the new reality. How is “CD-Action” currently?
This year’s vacation has gone down in history. Compared to previous years, they were unique – not only could we finally forget about covid restrictions (remember that the virus is still circulating around the world, so be careful), but also for the first time we had to be content with just one number of “CD-Action”. Of course, as a quarterly it is much more extensive and richer in content, so it will last for much longer, but you can see that the new format still has not reached its final shape. Compared to the previous release, much more space was devoted to game reviews. There are still links to extended content on the Internet, but they are not as numerous as before. A lot of space has been devoted to Bethesda’s upcoming new brand, Starfield– a game that allows you to build space ships and bases, develop the protagonist, get sickly gathering and a rich exploration of a multitude of known and unknown planets. There was also a subjective list of the most interesting announcements from the E3 conference, among which… What? A game of dwarves? In a universe created by Master Tolkien? SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
Something about games, because it’s “CD-Action” after all
The “Gramy” section, in which we can find a handful of reviews, begins with a rather interesting observation that we are currently experiencing a rash of boomer shooters, i.e. shooters explicitly referring to old productions from the beginning of the genre. Contemporary solutions with modern thought and experience give amazing results, which are not disturbed by the multitude of productions. Turbo Overkill , Nightmare Reaper , Prodeus , Arthurian Legends , Forgive Me Father or Hrot are just examples of this year’s representatives of this fashion.
Of course, there were also descriptions of louder games. We can see on the example of Postal: Brain Damaged how our compatriots are able to restore a popular brand to its rightful place after years of unsuccessful ideas. In the end, we also have Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga , which was created in pain, but finally turns out to be quite successful and the best part of the block-digital world. There was also a fair complaint about Diablo Immortal – a very successful transfer of the iconic brand into a mobile environment damaged by pathological monetization sprinkled with open Pay-to-Win. Plus, The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story , Roller Champions , The Quarry ,Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt and Swansong , King Arthur: Kn ight’s Tale and a large dose of independent gems.
The reader does not live by reviews alone
As before, the latest issue of “CD-Action” is mainly journalism. From a large number of articles, everyone will surely find something for themselves, and I strongly suggest you read the text about the history and myths of revolvers, from which we learn, among other things, what are percussion revolvers, why they are wrongly forgotten, what kind of game would never be created without this weapon and why the silencer is not very useful with this iconic construction. It’s also worth getting acquainted with the history of Tazo, once a cult addition to crisps, and more. Older readers can find out what the Japanese Menko and cigarettes have in common with the popular discs, and younger readers – how they connect with Obi-Wan Kenobi and the sarcophagi. If you want to know what Pac-Mana , Mario , have in commonResident Evil , Crash Bandicoot and all kinds of kart races, starting with Mario Kart , are also in this issue. It is worth noting that there were also numerous interviews, thanks to which we can learn something from Josh Sawyer about the Pentiment and David Cage about Quantic Dream and understand, thanks to Marcin Gortat, that games connect, not alienate.
Do you want to know the book of painful memories from the Silent Gables? Maybe you prefer to explore cyberpunk worlds in games, why Raymond doesn’t buy flagships anymore, why Bob was annoying and why Berlin wants to give him back his loneliness? All this and much more can be found in “CD-Action”! Hurry up, there’s not much time left until the next issue!
