A fawn alone in space
In The Moon Deer , the title character sets off on a space journey in his small ship. His journey could change the fate of the entire universe. For this reason, he is chased by a relentless hunter riding a space moose. The protagonist’s greatest treasure is the last egg for which he is ready to sacrifice his life. On the other hand, the persecutors will do anything to get their hands on them! For the sake of the cover and title, I thought the comic was aimed at a younger audience. I was pretty sure it would be a light, nice, emotional adventure story. Meanwhile, it turned out that it is definitely not a title for children. It’s an extremely serious, deep, exciting and touching story. Don’t be fooled by the appearance of the main character or the calm, melancholic scene on the cover.Moon deersurprises with twists, and especially with an amazing and moving ending! There is almost no text here, so it would seem that we are dealing with a light, maybe even infantile story. Nothing could be more wrong! It turns out that everything makes more sense here. The lack of dialogue or monologues is also crucial to the plot. In addition, inconspicuous scenes that in fact can tell us so much about both the heroes and the entire universe! The planets visited by the hero are also extremely interesting. I especially liked the world filled with a whole lot of pointed cones. The author has a very vivid imagination! I had no big expectations for this position, meanwhile, I got a moving, deep and memorable story. For me, this is the biggest comic surprise of this year!
Epic explosions
Moon deerI was delighted with the plot, the depicted world, and the characters, and what about the graphic side, which is so important for the comic? In my opinion, it’s just gorgeous. Yoann Kavege is an extremely talented cartoonist. The heroes look great, especially the nice and innocent face of the deer. I really like the facial expressions of the characters. The protagonist does not have to say anything in order for us to notice the emotions that accompany him at a given moment. I was especially taken by the dynamic scenes. Each frame depicting a fight or a chase looks simply epic. They stimulate emotions when we watch a deer struggle with a twice as large opponent. And in these dynamic frames, the color blue is especially remembered. This is the color of the projectiles fired by the antagonist! I could dissolve over the incredible beauty of the visuals for a long time! I expected that due to the negligible amount of dialogue I would fly through this comic book like a storm, but the phenomenal graphics made me stop at most of the frames for a long time! In this barrel of honey, however, there is a tablespoon of tar. Unfortunately, it is the edition. I don’t mind a paperback, but you can see slight signs of wear on the cover after just one reading.
Is it worth going on a journey with a deer?
There is an interesting story related to the Moon deer . It came to me by accident. Frankly speaking, I would probably pass by this title indifferently. Nevertheless, it was necessary to fulfill the reviewer’s obligation. And this is how I discovered a wonderfully beautiful gem. I am delighted with the Moon Deer , the more so as this is Yoann Kavege’s first comic. I wish all the creators such successful debuts. I definitely recommend everyone to get acquainted with this extremely exciting space odyssey published in Poland by Lost in Time !
