Although this year's film about the adventures of the most famous Amazon is not enjoying a good streak, because the premiere of the film has already been postponed for the third time, all fans of DC and Gal Gadot are eagerly waiting for the latest Warner Bros. will come to cinemas. Meanwhile, we come to the rescue to shed some light on what stories, characters and elements were used to create this long-awaited work.
Cheetah, an intriguing opponent
We know Kristen Wiig will play Diana’s enemy Cheetah. There were a few predatory cats in the comics bearing this name, so fans wondered which incarnation of Patty Jenkins he would use in the film. If you look at the DC chronology, Deborah Domaine was the wild cat in 1980-1985. A slightly genetically modified woman who, apart from super reflexes and sharp claws, did not stand out with anything special, and therefore did not pose any challenge for Wonder Woman.
She was succeeded by Barbara Ann Minerva, an ambitious archaeologist who performed a blood ritual that turned her into a half-human / half-cat with real powerful powers. It seems, however, that the Wonder Woman 1984 script , although set in the Cold War period, will strongly refer to the adventures of Diana in the “Rebirth” series, which was supervised by Greg Ruck. Although in Poland, the Egmont publishing house finished publishing this series on the fourth volume, it is undoubtedly very interesting, because it shows us how Barbara Ann Minerva – Wonder Woman’s best friend is cursed by the god Urzkartag and transformed into a predatory cat. In this monstrous form, he blames Wonder Woman for her fate and vows to take revenge on her.
Max Lord, a businessman like Lex Luthor
Maxwell Lord is one of the two antagonists in the film. A businessman and media entrepreneur who built his empire on TV commercials. Director Patty Jenkins has stated that Pascal’s performance as Lord was inspired by Gordon Gekko from the 1987 movie Wall Street , as well as a portrait of Lex Luthor in Richard Donner ‘s 1978 film Superman . But how does this relate to comics?
It also seems the Lord may have a connection with Ares. In the comic entitled Wonder Woman: Earth One appears in a costume called Armored Response Environment Suit (ARE S for short). This is a military contingency plan for General Phil Darnell and Maxwell Lord. Ares himself is also mentioned at the end of the book. Has Ares crossed the ranks of the Wonderful Woman again?
Where did this armor come from?
In 2016, in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice , 2017 Wonder Woman and the Justice League , Princess Diana wore the same iconic costume known to almost everyone, even DC’s Sunday fan club. However, the Wonder Woman 1984 poster shows a glittering golden armor that covers Diana from shoulder to toe. The costume is suitable for a queen princess and already raises a lot of questions – why is Diana wearing the new costume and where did it come from?
Diana’s new costume is mostly gold. It would seem that part of this armor is a kind of chain mail. While its design is entirely original and made for the movie, it has a striking resemblance to the iconic Wonder Woman costume from a certain story. The limited series Kingdom Come by Mark Waid and Alex Ross was a story set in the Elseworlds series, presenting the distant future of DC Universe. In this tale, Superman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the Justice League lived their golden years after passing the stick of superhero to the next generation. However, the carelessness of this new generation leads to tragedy, and the original superheroes have no choice but to rise again.
As Diana prepares for battle, she puts on a new costume designed to look like an eagle. It has wings and even a bird-shaped helmet. We also see something similar on the trailer.
While waiting for the official confirmation in the form of a movie on the screens and a comment from the creators, it is worth following a few stories that I have listed. Let’s keep our fingers crossed to see this movie soon, and it’s supposed to be in October.
