Comic novelties from Egmont – March 2020

In March, Egmont will once again serve its readers with a lot of news. There will also be titles about the most popular superheroes, as well as those for younger audiences.

 

 

This month’s premieres have been split into two dates. The first part of the news will appear on March 11, and the second part on the 25th. The full list of titles with their covers and descriptions can be found below.

Armada. Update, volume 20

The long-awaited twentieth volume of the famous science fiction series about the adventures of Navis, the only representative of the human race in Armada – a huge convoy of spacecraft traveling the universe. Navis continues to work for the democratic government of the New Armada, which has split off from the main group of ships run by a corrupt dictatorship. When Bassachy, a special forces officer and a friend of the main character, is injured in a confrontation with shapeshifting criminals, Navis goes in pursuit of the criminals. He discovers that they have stolen classified documentation files from the Old Armada archives. What’s more, the files stolen by them are called Navis … Do they hide the secret of the heroine’s origin? Will we finally find out how she ended up in Armada? Here is a crime story

Black Hammer ’45, vol. 1

In the Golden Age of Superheroes, the elite Allied Blackhammer Squadron was created to fight occult threats from the Nazis and the devastating pilot known as the Spectral Hunter. The Squadron was composed of soldiers who, in times of peace, would not enjoy the recognition of the command or the attention of the press. Why? They will explain it best by recalling their skirmishes with supernatural German enemies and giant Soviet mechs. The script is written by Eisner Award winner Jeff Lemire (“The Gourmand”, “Extraordinary X-Men”) and Ray Fawkes (“The Robin War”, “The Eternal Batman”), and the drawings are made by Matt Kindt (“Suicide Squad”).

Hellblazer, vol 3

Another part of the story about John Constantin – Hellblazer – the first in the interpretation of Garth Ennis. In his view, Hellblazer is a drunkard, a heavy smoker, a man who does not care for himself and others. At the same time, he is one of the few people who can fight demons. This time he will have to harness evil powers to save his own life.
The authors of the drawings for this volume are, among others William Simpson (“Judge Dredd”), Steve Dillon (“The Preacher”) and David Lloyd (“V for Vendetta”). The Hellblazer series is Vertigo’s longest-running series (1988–2013). Over the years, the scripts of John Constantine’s adventures have been written by many famous authors, including Garth Ennis, Paul Jenkins, Warren Ellis, Brian Azzarello, Neil Gaiman and Grant Morrison.

Marvel Classic. Ultimate Spider-Man, vol. 6

The sixth volume of the adventures of young Spider-Man. While teenage Peter Parker has successfully tackled many challenges, even he may not be up to the heartless killing machine that is Carnage. They should work together to unravel the mystery, and it won’t be a piece of cake. Spider-Man will also meet Doctor Strange and Johnny Storm, who was forced to graduate from high school. The Human Torch will go to the school, which also attends… Peter Parker. DC universe. Batman vs. Deathstroke

Myszart, vol 1

A fun story for children about a mouse that is a genius musician! Myszart lives in the piano of the wolf Salieri, the court composer of the Emperor of Austria. One morning, Myszart notices the wolf and his servant cat have left the house. So he decides to punch by jumping on the piano keys to recreate the music that has been echoing in his head for a long time … Coincidence causes that the piece is heard by the emperor and the empress, and thinking that it was performed by Salieri, they order the composer to play this melody at the ruler’s birthday. The wolf, in order to keep his job at court, must capture the mouse and make it perform at the ball… but perform in secret, lest Their Highnesses guess the fraud! The scenario of the story about Myszart was written by Thierry Joor, a Belgian editor and publisher who, after years of working in the comic industry, decided to create picture stories himself.

The Adventures of the Grand Vizier Iznoguda 2

Iznogud will try to send the caliph to the moon, argue him with the mighty Sultan Pulmankar, turn him into a golden statue, and even brush his teeth! All this to fulfill the dream of absolute power. Will he finally achieve his goal? The second album in the series “Adventures of the great vizier Iznoguda” contains the volumes: “Stars for Iznogud”, “Iznogud and the magic computer”, “Carrot for the vizier” and “Day of the madmen”. The main character was invented by two legendary French authors: screenwriter René Goscinny (“Asterks”, “Lucky Luke”, books about Santa Claus) and cartoonist Jean Tabara (“Corinne et Jeannot”).

Yakari i alien, vol. 7

The seventh album of adventure and humorous stories about a little Indian and his animal friends. By coincidence, Yakari meets an alien creature in his side – the pelican. The winged stranger is sick and hungry. Willing to help him, the brave Indian and his little horse, Little Lightning, drive the poor bird from one friend to another, hoping that they will be able to cure and feed it. But the task turns out to be much more difficult than Yakari expects! Will he still be able to find a cure for a stranger in need of care? And will he be able to repay him? The series was created in the late 1960s by two Swiss – screenwriter Job (André Jobin) and cartoonist Derib (Claude de Ribaupierre). For volumes 6 and 31 of Yakari (in 1982 and 2006 respectively), they received awards at the Angoulême Comic Book Festival in various categories of children’s comics. To date, almost forty albums have been released of the series, which still entertains younger and older readers.

Western series by the creators of the legendary “Blueberry”! The first cumulative album of the adventures of the young Captain Cutlass includes three episodes: “Mississipi River”, “Man from New Orleans” and “White Alligator”. After the Civil War, Louisiana was a very dangerous place. Poverty, declining plantations, gangs of unemployed blacks, the rip-offs of the occupation authorities of the Union, Ku Klux Klan raids, omnipresent corruption and a struggle for influence. In such a situation, Cutlass returns to the South to take over the estate he inherited. Together with their beautiful cousin, they will do everything to save the bankrupt plantation. Unfortunately, there will be many influential and clever people who will not stop even from murders to prevent the captain and his relative from achieving their goal! The series was invented by two legendary French comic book creators: screenwriter Jean-Michel Charlier and cartoonist Jean Giraud, or Moebius (“The Unlucky Major”, “Arzach”, “Eden’s World”). After Charlier’s death, Giraud limited himself to writing scenarios for Cutlass’s adventures, and Christian Rossi, the author of illustrations for numerous series, took up drawings. “WEST”.

Europe boards. Trolls of Troy, Volume 2

The second compilation of the hilarious and bloody series by Christophe Arleston, the creator of many stories about the world of Troy, including “Lanfeust of Troy”! The album features the original parts 5-8. The ruthless Risto Furiatu, the most important sage of the Eckmul Academy, will not miss any opportunity to take revenge on the trolls of Falomp. It will hire a specialist in scientific experience, hire special agents for impossible missions, and even go as far as using the services of a rock’n’troll band. Of course, he will also not forget to invent his own spells to enslave hairy monsters from the jungle. Meanwhile, the trolls, in the break between their confrontations with the sage, will go on a short trip to Hedulia, from where they will bring some interesting meat dish. In this album we will also get to know many other dishes that the inhabitants of Falomp like to taste. And this is how the life of trolls passes: in fights, adventures, culinary experiments and lazing around. All series set in the world of Troy (including “Odyssey Lanfeust”, “Conquerors of Troy”) were invented by the famous French screenwriter Christophe Arleston. The author of the drawings for the Trolls is Jean-Louis Mourier, the author of the illustrations also for other stories written by Arleston: “Fires of Askell” and “Warriors of Troy”.

Green Class. Pandemic, Volume 1

A youth post-catastrophic story that immediately became a hit on the Francophone market. A group of Canadian teenagers with a guardian go to the marshes of Louisiana to learn about the difficult life in the bosom of wild nature as part of a green school. When the heroes return to civilization after two weeks spent in the wilderness, it turns out that the world is engulfed in a rapidly spreading pandemic. Entire towns are extinct, and many people have turned into terrible creatures with which the army fights. Teenagers end up in a guarded zone for the infected, where living conditions are terrible and violence is ubiquitous. Will they cope in such a suddenly changed world? The authors of the stories are two French authors: screenwriter Jéróme Hamon, known for his manga, children’s and fantasy comics (e.g. “Dreams Factory”, “Nils”),

Sky Harry. Chicago, vol. 3

Jacen Burrows illustrated this dark, disturbing story.
The Polish edition has been enriched with a lexicon of references to the works of HP Lovecraft by Mateusz Kopacz.

Usagi Yojimbo: The Beginning, Book 1

Usagi Yojimbo: The Beginning is a two-part series that features the first volumes of the Ronin Rabbit adventures that precede the stories collected in the Usagi Yojimbo Saga series. By the end of the sixteenth century, Japan was shaken by numerous civil wars. In one of the battles, Miyamoto Usagi lost his sovereign, Mr. Mifune. From that day on, a lonely Ronin travels the country, looking for peace of mind, fighting for justice and perfecting samurai skills.
In this volume we meet Usagi, as well as his master Katsuichi, who turned a young and inexperienced sword adept into a true warrior. We learn what happened during the battle on the Adachi plain. Usagi also meets the bounty hunter Gena, with whom his path will cross many more times, and Zato-Ino – a blind sword master who is distinguished by an excellent sense of smell. “Usagi Yojimbo: The Beginning” is a masterly comic book adaptation of samurai legends, published for over thirty years and translated into several dozen languages. The first book contains materials published in the following volumes: “Ronin”, “Samurai”, “The Way of the Wanderer”, “The Conspiracy of the Roaring Dragon”. A humorous science fiction comic based on the American animated television series of the same title, which was originally intended to be a parody of the movie “Back to the Future”. Volume eight follows the adventures of the degenerate genius Rick Sanchez, who drags his extremely shy grandson Morty Smith into dangerous adventures across the universe! The volume includes a special two-part story about vampires called “Let him in.” Jerry, on the other hand, is having (with difficulty) his worst day. How about a battle royale where you can only win by turning into different variants of Rick? In Rick’s Cactus? In Rick’s Butter Dish? Why not! All this and more in this collection of pictorial stories about Rick and Mury!

Kaczgród. Uncle Sknerus and Donald Duck – Return to the Plain of Horrors, vol.2

The second volume of stories about Scrooge and other heroes from Kaczgród by the famous American screenwriter and cartoonist Don Rosa. The richest duck in the world once again travels with his loved ones to South America to implement his plans to increase wealth in the Plain of Horrors. He will also send Donald and nephews to hot Africa in search of the rarest of the crocodile varieties that was already known in ancient Rome. None of these distant expeditions will be full of chilling experiences or happy gaffes! Of course, there are also stories taking place in Kaczgród itself! We will find out what the real origins of the city were, why Diodak did not make a fortune by cleansing McDuck’s treasury of rats, why Magika De Czar will do anything to get the most important Scrooge coin, and whether knowledge of the future allows for stock market successes. The album also contains extensive materials showing interesting facts about the stories contained in this volume. Don Rosa is considered to be the greatest continuator of Carl Barks’ work, the creator of most of the heroes from Kaczgród. For over thirty years, Rosa has been drawing stories about the colorful characters of the drake world. His talent was appreciated in 1995, when for the album “The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck” he was awarded the most important American comic award – the Eisner Award.

DC universe. Green Lantern – The Galactic Law Enforcer, Volume 1

The famous screenwriter Grant Morrison (“Batman”, “All-Star Superman”) returns to DC Comics with the famous and respected cartoonist Liam Sharp (“Brave And The Bold”, “Wonder Woman”) in the pages of the “Green Lantern” series. Morrison and Sharp tell an epic story, bringing Hal Jordan, the Controllers, the Darkstars, and the Guardians of the Universe in a new light, as well as many other Green Lantern enemies and allies who have appeared in comic books over the past few decades. The Green Lantern’s encounter with an alien hiding on Earth will trigger events that will shake the foundations of the Green Lantern Corps.
