Comic novelties from Egmont – January 2020

Egmont and the Comics World Club will start 2020 with over a dozen new titles. Among them there will be comics such as about the popular heroes of Marvel and DC, as well as the first items from the series of adaptations of Agatha Christie’s novels. There will also be something for younger readers.

 

All January titles will be released on January 22nd. Particularly noteworthy are the previously mentioned items based on the works of the famous Agatha Christie. In addition, there will also be a new edition of Superman – The Red Son , as well as a special edition of Batman with a cover from Polish artist Grzegorz Przybyś and many others. Agatha Christie. The Beresfords – A Mysterious Opponent

The author of the script is cartoonist and illustrator Benjamin von Eckartsberg, known primarily as the screenwriter of the Gung Ho series. The drawings were made by Tsai Chaiko (Chronique des immortels).

Comic book based on the best-selling novels by Agatha Christie. The screenplay was written by the Swiss writer, playwright and director Dominique Ziegler, and the drawings were made by Olivier Dauger, considered the best aviation cartoonist (Ciel en ruine).

One of his most astonishing journeys before Corto, which will lead him not only into the darkness of prehistoric secrets, but also into the abyss of magical dreams … A series about the adventures of a vagabond sailor and romantic adventurer was created by the famous Italian screenwriter and cartoonist Hugo Pratt (1927–1995), known to the Polish reader from the excellent albums Indian Summer or El Gaucho. The Corto Maltese series is now considered a classic of European comics. The first album of the series entitled The Salt Waters Tale won the 1976 prestigious award at the Angoulême International Comic Book Festival in the Best Realistic Comic category.

DMZ – Demilitarized zone, volume 1

The first volume of one of the most interesting war series in recent years. The story takes place in the near future. The United States is fighting the anti-establishment uprising of the American middle classes that created the so-called Free States. This Second Civil War ravaged the country, but New York was the worst. The US government controls the East, the Free States control the West, and both sides are trying to seize Manhattan Island, now known as the Demilitarized Zone – DMZ. That’s where the young photojournalist Matty Roth landed. The rest of his team probably died – Matty is alone, he lacks experience and equipment. However, in the DMZ, he will get a lifetime chance to report on events that other journalists do not have access to. If he can show the truth, he could become the greatest war correspondent in history. The author of the screenplay of DMZ is repeatedly nominated for the Eisner Award Brian Wood, known for such series as People of the North, The Couriers, The Massive, Star Wars, Conan The Barbarian, Lord of the Rings and X-Men. The drawings were made by the Italian artist Riccardo Burchielli, known to Polish fans from the People of the North series.

Scott Free is the greatest survivor of escapees. He is so good that he managed to escape from the macabre orphanage of Grandma Sam Dobro na Apokolips and settle down on Earth with another fugitive – Big Barda. Superman – The Red Son is an alternative story about the Man of Steel based on a surprising idea. The Krypton spacecraft crashes onto Earth, and aboard it is a baby who will one day become the most powerful being on the planet. However, the vehicle doesn’t drop in America and the little passenger isn’t raised in Smallville, Kansas. The alien’s new home is a collective farm in the Soviet Union. Years later, a stranger from another world who can change the course of mighty rivers and bend steel with his bare hands, becomes a protector of the workers and an ally of Stalin!
The script for the comic was written by the Scottish author Mark Millar (Superman Adventures, The Authority, Civil War, Wanted – The Fugitives, Kick-Ass, Ultimates, Ultimate X-Men, Kingsman: The Secret Service) The authors of the drawings are Dave Johnson (Detective Comics, 100 Naboi) and Kilian Plunkett, an artist known for his numerous Star Wars productions.

The ninth volume of Batman adventures from the DC Rebirth publishing line. The Dark Knight discovers that recent encounters with Mister Freeze, the KGBestia, and other villains were arranged by one person. The penguin claims that Bane, the man who broke the Bat, pulls all the strings. But how is this possible when Bane is secluded in the Arkham Asylum and is a broken man himself? Since the previous meeting with Batman, he has been almost completely catatonic. Did Bane fall into this state to deliberately mislead the protector of Gotham and gain an advantage over him? Polish artists draw DC Comics heroes

The most famous superheroes of the DC universe have visited Polish cities. Famous and respected Polish cartoonists were asked by Egmont to create alternative covers for several regularly appearing series from the DC Comics world, such as: Batman Detective Comics, Superman Action Comics, Harley Quinn, Justice League, Flash. The invitation to participate in the project was accepted by outstanding artists: Piotr Cieśliński, Zbigniew Kasprzak, Jakub Kijuc, Adam Kmiołek, Piotr Kowalski, Tomasz Larek, Katarzyna Niemczyk, Marek Oleksicki, Grzegorz Przyrawy, Marianna Strychowska, Przemysław Truściński. The works represent different artistic styles and different visions of famous characters, but they all share a love for comics. Albums with alternative covers will be released from October 2019 to January 2020.

Little Piorun received a mysterious summons and had to go to a distant land, where dangerous trials await him. Only the bravest of the brave Mustangs can get through them. What is the purpose of these trials, and after defeating them, will the horse be the same happy playmate as before? The series was created in the late 1960s by two Swiss – screenwriter Job (André Jobin) and cartoonist Derib (Claude de Ribaupierre). For volumes 6 and 31 of Yakari (in 1982 and 2006 respectively), they received awards at the Angoulême Comic Book Festival in various categories of children’s comics. To date, almost forty albums have been released of the series, which still entertains younger and older readers.
