Masters of Comics. Yans, vol 1
Script: Andre-Paul Duchâteau
Drawings: Grzegorz Rosiński
Translation: Wojciech Birek
The series about the adventures of a space agent, started in 1980, became the second, next to the Thorgal saga, the flagship work of Polish comic book cartoonist Grzegorz Rosiński, made for the Belgian publishing house Lombard. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, this SF story about the adventures of a mysterious stranger was created in difficult conditions. The Belgian screenwriter André-Paul Duchâteau and the Polish cartoonist were divided by the Iron Curtain. However, thanks to the combination of the imagination and talent of both artists, “Yans” became a comic hit in the West, as well as in Poland. The twelve-volume series has developed its own poetic style and original mythology. Grzegorz Rosiński created it until 1990, and then handed it over to Zbigniew Kasprzak – Kasa.
The first part of the three-volume collective edition contains a fascinating story, based on the memories of the authors and illustrated with documents, about the circumstances of the creation of this extraordinary series, a short standalone comic book about Yans entitled “Tower of Despair”, as well as the first four full-length episodes: “The Last Island”, “Prisoner of Eternity”, “The Mutants of Xanai” and “The Gladiators”.
