The book “The Pigeon and the Snake” could easily be called a youth fantasy. But what is the story about? The author of the novel has created a world in which there is a constant struggle between good and evil. In the presented world there is no concept of a good witch and each of them is doomed to be burned at the stake. But is it really true?

Lou, the main character of our story, is a witch of flesh and blood. Besides, she’s also an excellent thief and, it turns out, an actress. As a result of unfortunate events, she is forced to marry one of the witch hunters, which makes concealing her identity even more difficult than before, and its detection could result in the worst consequences.

Especially when one more, much more dangerous danger looms overhead.

Another zakalec or a good debut?

The first thing I noticed is very well-created characters. Each of them is distinguished by something, and their characters and values ​​are unwavering, which we can observe at every opportunity. Even secondary characters have traits or behaviors that make us feel as if they are real. The novel has an interesting and – for me – new magic system, which is a very fresh element. I also consider the idea for the plot to be original.

On the other hand, I lacked descriptions of the world itself, places. There are a few of them throughout the book, but basically we get relatively little information about them, especially at the beginning. It can also be a matter of laziness, because I got used to the fact that in such books there are maps at the front, which in my opinion is a very interesting element and here I regretted the lack of it.

I find my time with this book very successful. The action follows the action, the heroes arouse sympathy from the very beginning and thus encourage you to learn about their fate as soon as possible. The ending suggests that there will be a sequel, and I am very happy because I will be happy to pick up the next part.
