Born in Toronto, Arthur Christopher Orme Plummer began his acting career in 1953. He made his screen debut five years later in Becoming a Star . One of his most famous roles is the figure of Georg von Trapp in The Sound of Music . However, he himself was not a big fan of this picture, calling it in interviews, among others awful and sentimental. He repeatedly impersonated historical figures such as the Roman emperor Komodus ( Fall of the Roman Empire ), Leo Tolstoy ( Last Station ) or J. Paul Getty ( All the money in the world ).
Plummer has also appeared in many fantasy productions. He played a vampire hunter twice – first in Nosferatu in Venice and then in Dracula 2000 . He also appeared in the star-studded Wolf . He also played in science fiction productions – 12 Monkeys or Star Trek VI: War for Peace – as well as in fantasy paintings – Parnassus: The Man Who Cheated the Devil .
During his career spanning more than six decades, he has won virtually all of the top entertainment awards. Including an Oscar, a Genie Award, two Emmys, the same number of Tony Awards, a Golden Globe, the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the British Film Academy Awards (BAFTA). Plummer broke several records in the process. He won the Oscar for Debutants at the age of 82, which made him the oldest winner of the acting award. Thanks to nominations for All the money in the world, he became the oldest person nominated for the acting award. He was then 88 years old. He is also the first and so far the only Canadian to have won the so-called “Triple Acting Crown” that is the Tony, Emmy and Oscar awards.
Christopher Plummer was last featured in the 2019 movie Knives . The entire editorial staff of The Last Tavern joins the condolences from all over the world for the actor’s family.
