Mavka and the Guardians of the Forest is not only a beautiful fairy tale about the feeling born between a man and a creature from the forest. It is also an extremely wise and valuable story about how important nature is and what we can do to protect it. The filmmakers draw attention to the problem of deforestation, poaching, unorganized tourism, etc. The film features 13 endangered plant and animal species. So we will find in this animation, among others: Eurasian lynx, brown bear, black stork, bison. A careful eye will notice rare plants: saffron junipers, narrow-leaved daffodils, tiny primroses, snowdrops, snow lilies, blueberry yews. The project was consulted from the initial stage with WWF-Ukraine.
Mavka and the Guardians of the Forest is an animation created with a detailed mapping of elements of Slavic traditions, culture and folklore. The world-famous folk band Dakhabrakha is responsible for the music. The film features folk motifs in modern arrangements, patterns referring to Slavic mythology.

The film is based on the masterpiece of the classic fairy-tale drama Lesia Ukrainka, an outstanding Ukrainian writer into the woods, ready to destroy everything that stands in their way to fulfill the order. Will Mavka and Łukasz find the strength to defend the forest and its inhabitants? Can the love between a fairy and a human have a chance to survive? . Somewhere in the far reaches of a magical forest, there is a source of life, which is guarded by the charming fairy Mavka. No man has ever disturbed the eternal order here, and the animals and mythical creatures living in the area do not know what fear is. The appearance of the talented musician Łukasz here will be a real event. The more so that soon Mavka and Łukasz will become inseparable, and the feeling between them will bloom like a magic flower. Unfortunately, the idyll will soon be destroyed by a vain and greedy princess who, having learned about the magical power of the source of life, decides to steal it to keep her youth forever. 400 artists worked on the film at various stages. It shows 80 locations, including in the Carpathian and Polesie forests, as well as the real Ukrainian village of Vilkovo and the Buky canyon.
