A successful continuation
Undoubtedly, after an interesting beginning, the authors had to try to keep the readers’ interest. And it worked. Before our eyes, comics are undergoing a real metamorphosis. The opening of the series did not give us much information about the world, but it allowed us to create a certain vision of it. What we learn while reading the sequel turns almost everything upside down. On the one hand, it’s a pity, but on the other – it makes Ter more interesting to read.
However, the change covers not only the structure of the presented world, but also the mood of the comic book. The story being told is different than the one we sat down to read. And this, of course, may discourage some people, but in my opinion there is nothing wrong with it. This position is still interesting, and in its own way, thanks to this metamorphosis, even more interesting.
Spoilers(?) in the titles
Each volume has its own title. It reveals a bit about what we can expect inside, but it is not a harmful spoiler. Perhaps more of an announcement or a suggestion that we will fully understand only when everything is explained in the comic.
What can you say about the plot without spoiling the surprise? Not much, actually. Mandor remains the main character of the story and the action centers around him. In subsequent installments, the hero, and with him we, learn more and more about ourselves. However, he will not like everything. Fortunately for the audience, what doesn’t suit the protagonist makes the story more interesting for the readers.
Atmospheric graphics
It cannot be denied that Christophe Dubois skillfully creates the mood of the story with his drawings. It’s not about how beautiful they are – it’s more about how the creator uses color and perspective. The quality of the works is good. You can easily call them pretty, but you can also easily point out comics whose lines are more attractive to the eye. Here, however, you must appreciate how skillfully the author uses the color palette to convey the mood of the moment. When traveling with the characters, we feel the same as them, or at least some of the feelings that must accompany them.
Additional drawings at the end of both volumes are also worth attention. Perhaps somewhat paradoxically, the sketches look better. Not because colorful works are bad – absolutely not. There is simply something amazing about pencil sketches, something that makes us want to delve into the story.
Changes are for good
In the volumes discussed, the authors show us that sometimes we draw certain conclusions too quickly. However, the metamorphosis in the nature of the story is to its benefit. This may be an exaggeration, but such a refresh adds value to this story. Of course, it could happen later, but why not introduce such transformations from the very beginning?
