The latest comic series, published in 2021 by Egmont, is intended for the youngest readers. In the first notebook – The Smurf Who Was Afraid of the Dark – one of the most difficult problems faced by children and their parents – fear of the dark – was touched upon. Hi, I’m a Smurf Scarecrow!

In the first part of the comic we meet the Spooky Smurf, who is afraid of the dark. The youngest readers will learn about this difficult emotion that characterizes the hero. Apart from Strachus, recipients will also find out that Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Osiłek, Wagniak or Pracuś live in the Smurfs Village … and, importantly, they will not leave a friend in need. They try to help him overcome his fear and overcome unbridled, untamed fears. Will the cooperation bring the expected effect and Smurf will stop being afraid? We hope so! The youngest in the comic will probably like the large, detailed frames arranged in a square arrangement. Importantly, children who do not know the Smurfs can meet them in a new edition. The creators cleverly present them at the beginning of the comic. Worth a look at the mini-book? Definitely!

About emotions with a child psychologist

Part two of the album is advice that was developed by Diane Drory, a child psychologist and psychoanalyst. She openly asks the reader – And what are you afraid of? , After which there is the fear? , How to become a “fearless”? and also suggests that sometimes fear is unmanageable . Papa Smurf echoes: And what are you most afraid of? , What is your face when you’re afraid of? , What do you feel when you overcome the fear out of control?. This section also includes advice from the oldest Smurf in the Village on how to feel fear. Additionally, in the Polish language version of the comic, the psychologist Sylwia Jatczak shared her opinion about the series. Her thoughts are to contribute to the conversation of parents or guardians with children about emotions. The opinions of children’s specialists are an extremely important element of the comic and undoubtedly are the key to starting discussions with children on difficult topics.

About the comic

The authors of the Smurf proposal for the youngest are Falzar and Thierry Culliford, a descendant of Peyo (screenplay), Antonello Dalena (drawings) and Paolo Maddaleni (colors). Marta Mosiewicz is responsible for the translation, whose work should be appreciated by every fan of the Smurf universe. Big applause for the translation! The first part of the comic is only thirty pages of the album, the next is the aforementioned quasi-therapeutic part (mechanisms that can cause fear and attempts to understand them are discussed).
