CD Projekt Red: what does the new medallion from “The Witcher” mean?

Materiały Prasowe firmy CD Projekt Red.

CD Projekt Red moved the entire Internet with the announcement of their new game and even a beginning of new saga for the well-known videogame series The Witcher. The poster provided by the creators shows a medallion buried in the snow, which resembles neither the medallion of Geralt (the main character of earlier games and books), nor the medallion of any known witcher school so far.

Fans of the Witcher series could not guess what the previously unknown medallion presents, there has been a lot of speculation on this topic on the Internet. Fortunately, CD Projekt Red decided to reveal the secret and share with the players which animal appears on the chain.

To the surprise of many, the head of the animal visible on the poster belongs to the lynx. This was first confirmed on Twitter by Marcin Momot (Global Community Director at CD Projekt), and then, in a statement for Eurogamer, by Robert Malinowski (Global Communication Director at CD Projekt):

Okay, some secrets don’t have to be that mysterious. I can confirm that the medallion is actually in the shape of a lynx.

Fans of books and games know very well that there is no lynx school in the canon. So there were theories that CD Projekt Red intends to explore the world known from Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels long before the famous Geralt of Rivia appeared in the world, when the witchers were not on the verge of complete extinction. Other players claim that maybe one of the already known characters, such as Geralt or Ciri, will want to create new witchers, after all, the monsters continue to torment the lands of the witcher universe. This is an interesting thread, because they would most likely use new methods and ways of mutating than what they considered barbaric.

There will definitely be a lot of time to come up with theories about the upcoming CD Projekt Red production. We are all waiting impatiently for new materials and hints from the developers.
