“CD-Action” on the trail – a review of the quarterly

The Witcher 3 , despite its age, dominated the latest issue of “CD-Action”, leaving even God of War: Ragnarök behind . Did White Wolf leave some room for other titles?

The snow fell lazily to the ground in single, sparsely scattered flakes. The trail was wrapped in white fluff, but the clear traces showed that it had been frequented not so long ago. A hooded gentleman was walking through one of the grooves, holding a quarterly in his hand. The cover of the magazine looked at the world with narrow-pupilated eyes, like a cat’s. Inside, they say, he carries two types of texts – silver reviews and steel publications.

As the year 2022 has recently gone down in history, it’s time to sum up what has happened in the past twelve months. Of course, this could not omit the first edition of “CD-Action” this year, which begins its first pages with this list. In a fairly extensive chapter, the editors mention the most interesting titles of the last four quarters, both AAA and indie games. The nine pages of the list speak for themselves.

There’s no denying that The Witcher 3 has once again taken over the cover of “CD-Action”, although it’s been almost eight years since its premiere. This art was successful thanks to the appearance of the complete edition, which introduces a lot of improvements and novelties. Suffice it to say that this version has been visually refined through the use of Ray Tracing technology and thanks to respect for the modders’ work so far, and there was also some additional content. You can’t pass by the rating of A Plague Tale: Requem , a production with an atmospheric and emotional story about sibling love against the backdrop of a lousy reality prepared by human wickedness, which, however, can be difficult to grasp without knowing the previous installment, and Pentiment– a detailed, climatically animated history lesson full of meaningful choices, where you can pet many dogs and cats. Of course, there are also reviews of many other titles, such as Scorn , God of War: Ragnarök , Mario + Rabbits: Sparks of Hope , Bayonetta 3 or Evil West . Also this time, which is becoming a nice tradition, there is a list of interesting indie games.

As in the case of reviews, the journalism could not miss texts about our native monster hunter. In this way, courtesy of Smuggler, we can get to know all the games, except for the famous CDProject RED trilogy, which delved into the universe created by Andrzej Sapkowski (did you know that there was such a thing as a text-based witcher?), although we start this journey with quite strong quote from Adrian Chmielarz. In the second article, in turn, all other media referring to this colorful, though mainly gray world were presented, and of course a few words about the fan work supported by our website Half a Century of Poetry Later. It is also worth delving into the rather turbulent history of the once wildly popular pinball machines, in which one of the important moments is the desire of a certain Pole to hide from the rain in the right place and time. This time it’s not about Geralt of Rivia, but it’s still interesting.

Why Dune II shouldn’t be the first RTS? When does the game smell? What are random clones? What is the history of CDs and their impact on the world? You will find answers to these questions and many other interesting things in the latest issue of “CD-Action”!
