DC Graphic Novel 13+
The proposal in question should be classified as a series dedicated to young readers. According to the information on the cover, teenage heroes known from DC comics struggle with the world, discover their own identity, and appreciate the power of friendship. The series deals with important social topics, which may have an indirect impact on the way teenage comic book readers look at the world. When discussing proposals for 13+ readers, one should mention such names as: Kami Garcia ( Beautiful creatures ), Leigh Bardugo ( Grisha ), Gabriela Picolo or Manuela Preiano (graphics). Works by these artists will appear in the series. Importantly, the authors of the reviewed volume Catwoman: The Moonlight is Lauren Myracle ( 3maj up) and cartoonist Isaac Goodhart.
Catwoman
This is a story about accelerated growing up. Selina Kyle is forced to leave her family home and look for non-obvious allies. The girl’s mother, creating relationships with many suspicious men, was not inclined to provide the heroine with good living conditions. Especially her last partner – Dernell – does not accept the girl and her teenage moods. He is an extreme chauvinist. This part of the comic book can touch even the hardest of hearts – the young protagonist is powerless, because even her mother refuses to help her. One of the scenes is truly dramatic, so you need someone to wipe a tear. The second part of the comic is a story about the further fate of the heroine – independent, brave and self-confident, but also … homeless. Unfortunately, the reader receives, above all, a superhero storyrather than a memorable image from a psychological perspective. Myracle’s excessive desire – by the way, the New York Times bestseller author – to create something ambitious and real at the same time had the opposite effect: too much cause-and-effect accumulation can tire the recipient and discourage him from the series.
In the moonlight
Applause for Goodhart! It did great. Portraying the emotions of the characters was not the slightest problem for him. The pale blue graphics allow you to better imagine the world in which a troubled teenager lives. There is no room for a candy past and a fairy-tale future here, there is a life that does not allow you to stop. Catwoman: In Moonlight is a dark story, but if you have an hour to spare, take a look. You will definitely not regret it.
