In 1991, the Addams Family appeared in theaters . The film about the dark family immediately won the hearts of the audience. Morticia’s role was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. Anjelica Huston and Raúl Juliá have created an unrivaled pair in this comedy. No wonder then that a sequel, the Addams Family 2 (in the original Addams Family Values ), was created.
The 1993 sequel tells the story of how a new baby appears in the family – cute and cute, with a killer mustache. Older siblings decide to get rid of him, try various methods, such as guillotine, throwing him out of the window … Fortunately, nothing works, but the parents decide to hire a babysitter. They don’t know that she is a black widow. And she has just lost a parole on the brother of the master of the house – Fester … Whereas Wednesday and Pugsley are sent to the camp, which they very much do not want …
It’s an intelligent and dark comedy, with sharp irony and humor. In addition to the brilliant host pair, introduces another great team – Festera and Debbie. Anyway, there is no need to write much – virtually every character in this movie is unique. The directing (again Barry Sonnenfeld) is great and Paul Rudnick is responsible for the wonderful script. Huston was nominated for a Golden Globe again, and the film made it to the sequel lists that outperform the originals. Only the song from the movie did not like it so much that she got the Golden Raspberry. Judge for yourself if you deserve:
Michael Jackson was supposed to write the song for the movie, but that didn’t come about because of differences in the Paramount deal. However, he “appeared” in the film – his poster scares Joel, Wednesday’s friend.
The film starred, among others: Anjelica Huston as the incomparable Morticia Addams, Raúl Juliá as the handsome Gomez Addams, Christina Ricci was the diabolical Wednesday Addams, Jimmy Workman – Pugsley Addams, Carel Struycken reappeared, who could have been Lurch, even without make-up, and Christopher Lloyd as Fester Addams, Gomez’s brother, and Mercedes McNab as Amanda’s Campmate. Joan Cusack was great as the murderer of Debbie Jellinsky.
The movie is full of epic dialogue. For example this:
Gomez: Kids, why do you hate the little one?
Pugsley: We don’t hate him. We just want to play with him.
Wednesday: Especially his head.
Or this:
Morticia: You’ve gone too far. You married Fester, you destroyed his spirit, you took him away from us. I could forgive you all this. But, Debbie …
Debbie: What?
Morticia:… pastels?
I already know how I’m going to spend tonight. And you?
