“Buzz Lightyear” – character from “Toy Story” conquers the cinema with his own film!

Return to the cult animation after many years!

A few years after the premiere of Toy Story 4 , on June 17, 2022, a film showing the adventures of the space guardian, Buzz Lightyear, is released. The producers, presenting the story of the Buzz Lightyear toy, introduced a cat to the fate of the space guardian, or actually a cat, which is a robot. Kotex is a small companion of the main character who, contrary to appearances, influences the plot and plays a quite important role. A strong bond develops between the guardian of the cosmos and the cat – they become friends, solve problems together, and fight against Astral’s enemy, Zurg. In the film, Kotex amazes with his intelligence and at the same time makes the viewers laugh. It is an inseparable element of Buzz’s life and accompanies him in his adventures. Moreover, later in the story, new characters join them who also help Buzz. Together, they form a well-coordinated team and try to achieve the intended goal of the mission together.

A novelty for children’s animations, i.e. the plot of same-sex couples

A surprising new element for this film was the story of Buzz Lightyear’s friend and one character’s grandmother, Alishia Hawthorne. The creators decided to show the relationship of a same-sex couple in the film and presented the story of the grandmother of one of the protagonists. This is a big step in the history of children’s cinema, especially in Disney cartoons. Recently, LGBTQ + themes are being introduced more and more often in films, also for younger viewers. Granny Hawthorne’s story gives the production an element of freshness that sets it apart from other animated films. It is a new convention that has been woven into the plot in a surprisingly good way and does not distract from the main fate of Buzz Lightyear.
