Bun, cat, goat, what? – a review of a card game from the Rebel publishing house

Bread roll

At the beginning of the game, players are dealt 12 cards. Then, one by one, we say one word of the rhyme “Bun, Cat, Goat, Cheese, Pizza” while placing a card from the top of your pile in the middle. If the picture matches the word you say, you have to tap the pile in the middle of the table as quickly as possible. Whoever makes a mistake or performs the action last wins the cards.

It can’t be too easy. The illustrations are drawn in such a way that at the fast pace of the game they will be confusing. And the cat has a different color, and the purple background will confuse us, and we will not recognize the panda sitting with its back to us. The rules of the game are unforgiving: all you have to do is move your hand to get a penalty. Do you make a mistake in the calculation? You take the stack. Will you miss it’s your turn? You take the stack. Won’t you perform a special action? You take the stack. Will you put your hand on a pile but wrong side up? You take the stack.

The game is delivered exactly as it should be. We have big, solid cards that will withstand many hits. The illustrations on them are simple, legible and drawn in an eye-pleasing style. In addition, we have a concise, explaining manual and a durable magnetic-closed box. All this makes us reach for the game often and willingly.

The game works well with any team, although it should perform best in larger groups, where it’s easier to create chaos and emotions related to proving each other’s mistakes. The gameplay is intense, exciting and full of twists and turns. However, playing more than a few games in a row will be tiring, hence Buła, Kot, Goat, Cheese, Pizza – Inverted is best as a break between other games or a way to get the party going.

For me, the game is perfectly composed – it provides fast, exciting gameplay, is nice and solidly released. Exactly as it should be.
