The idea for a Mortal Kombat brawl was born in the minds of the creators in 1992. Ed Boon and John Tobias started a series of themed games and films, the characters of which do not avoid violence. This year, a DVD with the latest Dragon adaptation has hit stores.
Introduction
Initially, Mortal Kombat was played on slot machines, later versions for consoles and computers were made available. Since 1992, a dozen or so games have been released, compatible with many platforms, incl. PC, Nintendo 64, Playstation, Game Boy or Xbox. In addition to its success on the gaming market, Mortal Kombat also proved its worth in another field. Fans of the fighting could see popular adaptations: in cinema adaptations (including Mortal Kombat , Mortal Kombat 2: Annihilation ), TV series (including Mortal Kombat: The Animated Series , Mortal Kombat: Kidnapping ) and animated (m .in. Mortal Kombat: The Beginning of the Quest), as well as in the comic. One of the most interesting offers is Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe , a classic crossover that will appeal to both fans of the game and superhero productions.

We played the game on different consoles, then watched movies on both small and large screens and … undoubtedly succumbed to the charm of the series. Despite not very flattering opinions on many of the game’s sequels (one of the drawbacks that fans point to is the unreasonable and unlimited revival of dead heroes), Simon McQuoid (director), Greg Russo and Dave Callaham (script) decided to change the minds of fans and – as if trying to obliterate the disgrace of the previous episodes of the series (excluding the first movie: Mortal Kombat from 1995) – they planned to restart the series in 2021. The shooting period was short (less than four months), then quick editing and voila! – we have a little piece that might appeal to fans of Mortal Kombat, but it probably will not delight a person who is not emotionally related to the series.

About the Death Battle !
The latest adaptation tells the story – here I will not surprise you – of warriors traveling to the temple of the god Raiden to prepare for the great, meaning bloody tournament, which is commonly called MORTAL KOMBAT. They include MMA fighter Cole Young, who has fought for years for money; However, he does not know why the ruler of the underworld, Shang Tsung, wants to kill him and if he wants to explain it, he must find his friends and face evil with them. Sounds familiar? Fans who know the series and remember the 1995 adaptation will probably be eager to immerse themselves in the story and will notice just as quickly that the two propositions are (very) similar to each other. Such a realization of the latest project may, unfortunately, have a negative impact on the feelings of the viewer, who will experience the repetition of images, at the same time depleted of attractiveness. This, What touched me personally is the fact that the song associated with the series only appears in the film once. What a pity! Unfortunately, this is not the only drawback. LatestMortal Kombat is a martial arts movie and a potential viewer probably expects several dozen minutes of entertainment. Unfortunately, the shots are too short, they spoil the fun and make it difficult to fully concentrate on the picture, because something is blinking at him all the time. However, I recommend an alternative solution – check the movie again just to look for easter eggs , it works!
Action and no reaction
The beginning of the film intrigues and introduces the viewer into the mood characteristic of the games from the series. When we meet Sub-Zero, we want to scream – he’s my actor, well done! Unfortunately later it gets a bit worse. I have the impression that the selection of the cast was done on the basis of a lottery. The main character’s motivation is understandable, but we don’t necessarily know what he really means. There is a lack of emotions and commitment, fatality does not necessarily meet expectations, there is also no good music and a nice, memorable murder; Instead, limbs fly, skulls break, bodies burn alive, and the soul is… the soul is sucked out. Still Mortal Kombatit can put even the most persistent viewer to sleep, one who will persistently wait for a super fight tournament; safe spoiler: won’t wait. I have a theory for this, which I probably share with fans of the series: the creators, without telling anyone about it, actually created a prequel and are planning the next parts – the great Mortal Kombat universe with wooden actors, no atmosphere, poor soundtrack and rudimentary, flashing shots of the fights. If you expect a good fight, characteristic of the series of games – I can assure you that you will be disappointed.
DVD release
The DVD edition prepared by Galapagos includes the original language version (English), the possibility of including a Polish voiceover, as well as subtitles in Polish, Hungarian, Czech, Romanian and Bulgarian. As a bonus, there are scenes that were not used in the movie (a treat!).
For fans of the Mortal Kombat series, it is a real must have . If I recommend the latest adaptation to you, saying it’s a better movie than Mortal Kombat: Annihilation , will you buy it? I recommend watching it at least once – just to know what’s squeaking in the grass.
