News of the engagement for Fraser appeared on Monday. According to reports, he is to play a villain nicknamed Firefly. The upcoming film will also feature Leslie Grace as the eponymous Batgirl, JK Simmons returning to as Commissioner Gordon, and Jacob Scipio in a previously undisclosed role.
Brendan Fraser already has some experience with DC comic book adaptations. In the Doom Patrol series, he plays Cliff Steele also known as Robotman. Unlike the character he is to play Batgirl in the picture about the outcast team, he is one of the protagonists. Both productions are commissioned by the HBO Max streaming service.
Firefly is used quite often outside of comics. Various versions of the antagonist have appeared in animations, games and even twice in drama series. In Arrow it was Garfield Lynns and in Gotham it was Bridgit Pike.
Prime Minister Batgirl is currently planned for 2023.
