The first plans for a movie based on the loot shooter series appeared five years ago. Now the topic has become more specific, because in addition to the team of producers and writers, the director has also been chosen.
Eli Roth first announced that he would be making the film Borderlands via his Twitter account. At the same time, he did it in a quite humorous way. The director added graphics with several characters from the game and a psycho in the front, characteristic of the series. However, Roth’s face was pasted in place of the villain’s head.
In the press material published by Deadline, the creator of the Hostel series, among others , stated that he intends to introduce a lot of his energy and ideas to the crazy world known from games. Lionsgate boss Nathan Kahane says that with the director’s vision and the current script, they probably found the golden mean to film a real hit based on the world of Borderlands .
In addition to Roth, screenwriter Craig Mazin ( Chernobyl ), producers Avi and Ari Arad, as well as Gerbox founder Randy Pitchford, executive producer, are also involved in the project . It has not been revealed yet whether the production will be an adaptation of one of the games or a completely new story. It is also not known when the premiere of the film is planned.
