Boba Fett vs. the rest of the galaxy – a review of the comic book “Star Wars. The Bounty Hunters’ War

Marvel has gone a step further in its interpretation of the Star Wars universe. This time we get an explosive mixture in which the main character, Boba Fett, has to face almost every possible character from the universe. The Rebellion, the Empire, the Crimson Dawn, the Hutts – they will all compete for Han Solo’s frozen body. Who will win?

The fight for Han Solo

The action of the comic book is set several years after the Battle of Yavin, right after the events we know from The Empire Strikes Back .. The famous smuggler Han Solo, calmly frozen in carbonite, travels in the hold of Slave I, Boba Fett’s ship. However, the bounty hunter notices that his victim’s condition is not entirely stable. So if he wants to receive the full amount of the reward, he must ensure the safety of his prisoner as quickly as possible. However, the temporary difficulties are quickly exploited by the competition, and the carbonite block disappears in mysterious circumstances. Behind the theft is a revived criminal conglomerate, the Crimson Dawn, run by Qi’ra, Solo’s former lover. Soon, news of an auction spreads around the galaxy, in which the main bidder is Han himself! The Rebellion, the Empire, the Hutts, the gangs, all are invited to an auction that will not only bring huge profits to the Dawn, but also mark its presence in the political universe. Will Boba Fett let go of his prey so easily? As you can guess, the hunter does not wait long and sets out to collect the loot with blasters ready to fire.

Knowledge of the series is not required

The biggest advantage of Bounty Hunter Wars ? It is actually an independent novel that requires knowledge of the main films from the Star Wars saga. Given the current multitude of productions and publications set in this universe, this is an undeniable advantage. Despite this, there are plenty of moments when the reader wonders who a given character actually is. A pleasant impulse to further explore side stories, but not the awareness of the need to learn about the relationships between given characters. It’s quite transparent here, and that’s what counts. Even though the main plot revolves around the problem of Han Solo embedded in carbonite, there are also a lot of side plots. What I liked the most was the moment when Boba decided to fight in the arena. What’s more, the bounty hunter went by the pseudonym… Jango! A discreet wink to fans of the character familiar with her history.

Chewbacca as if alive

The comic book should definitely be praised for its great illustrations. Atmospheric colors, detail in every detail – these are the elements that fans love about Star Wars comics . Being able to study a single system in a hero’s spaceship is the best indicator that a given story has been illustrated properly. Undoubtedly, the greatest treat for fans is the opportunity to see their favorite characters on the pages of comics. Realistic drawings make the characters actually look like they should.

Star Wars Assemble!

The Bounty Hunters’ War could be considered a Star Wars crossover . At a time when Marvel has accustomed us to great superhero encounters on screen, it is only a matter of time before this phenomenon also spreads to Star Wars . The comic above is a great example where this was done well. The not too intrusive introduction of well-known characters does not detract from their realism and character. I didn’t expect much, but I got a very good piece of comic book that finally gives Boba Fett some space to express himself. A great standalone novel.
