Daniel “Dantez” Komorowski – has always been interested in the Middle Ages, the wars and battles of that time. He was most fascinated by the Vikings, thanks to which he created a series of novels whose main characters are warriors from the North.
If you still don’t feel encouraged, you can read an excerpt from Chapter XXXV below:
A troop of twelve warriors slid ashore. They all looked at the sword-sharp rocks that stood in their way. The wall they had to climb was impressive and took many people’s breath away. The fear, however, passed quickly. The companions of the leaders were not lacking in courage. Thanks to her, the plan of a silent attack had every chance of success.
“Are you sure you want to do this?” Haakon shouted to Ivar as the waves crashing against the rocks roared around.
– Why? Ivar said carelessly. “Do you want to withdraw?”
– I?! The Norwegian chuckled. – Never!
– Go ahead then! called the Boneless.
The warriors followed him. Before climbing, they had to reach a wall just outside the northern walls. The road led through a narrow strip of land, constantly washed away by the sea. The warriors had to move very carefully, because the ground was very slippery, and right next to the path there were rocks on which you could smash skulls. The time of day made the journey even more difficult as darkness was slowly falling. Fortunately, the area was illuminated by the moon, thanks to which the daredevils could see the outlines of the rocks and did not have to move completely in the dark.
Reaching the wall was only a foretaste of the struggle and – as it soon turned out – the easiest stage. Only climbing on wet rocks was a real test, and it was not going to be easier at the top. After all, there was a whole army of brave Irishmen waiting there, while there were only twelve Vikings! However, everything was according to plan. Later, the forces were to be distributed differently, but for this to happen, a murderous road had to be overcome first.
The Vikings overcame successive stages on their way to their destination. Ivar walked ahead, placing his feet carefully. It wasn’t in his mind to fall and get hurt before the fight. He still had a lot of work to do, and he was going to make it out alive.
Suddenly, one of the warriors slipped, but immediately another grabbed his arm and saved him from falling.
“I owe you help,” the rescued muttered to his friend.
– Be careful! Haakon shouted.
The party continued on, only a few steps to the rocky wall. The warriors were more focused and attentive than ever. They finally reached the wall.
– Tall female dog! Haakon laughed defiantly. A few people smiled, but most remained serious. While climbing, one mistake could mean death. The higher it was, the more dangerous it was, for there was nothing but sharp rocks below.
Boneless studied the wall, looking for a spot where the slope was gentlest and easiest to climb. He grabbed the rock with his hands, pulled himself up and took the first steps up. One of the warriors handed him a coiled rope, which Ivar threw over his head. The second rope was taken by Haakon, who took a seat next to the Boneless. The two were to climb to the very top and drop the ropes to the others.
– Good luck! Ivar said to his friend.
“May the gods be with us!” Haakon replied.
“Their help will be more useful than ever,” Ivar admitted, and they set off.
