BlizzCon 2021 canceled

For the second year in a row, Blizzard is canceling its flagship event. However, this does not mean waiting until next fall for new Californians.

Everything was announced by Saralyn Smith, executive producer of the event, via the official BlizzCon website. In the published post, she explained that due to the ever-changing pandemic situation in California, the event cannot take place. The organizers kept facing further obstacles in their preparations, until they reached the point where they would not be able to meet the date of the event.

What next, then, with the news regarding, inter alia, new games? Smith announced that preparations are already underway for a new online event, which will take place early next year (similar to this year’s BlizzConline). In the meantime, there will also be smaller events with a small audience.

Undoubtedly, many fans may feel disappointed with this news, but Blizzard is worth commending for its responsible approach to the matter. For the gaming industry giant, which not only reveals the latest information about its titles during its events, but also organizes, inter alia, eSports tournaments and meetings for fans are certainly also a big blow from the financial and marketing perspective.
