Fans of the Marvel universe may feel inconsolable as production of the new Blade has just been postponed to July 2022. The original plans were to start working on a new MCU movie in September this year.
The president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, announced in July 2019 that Blade will be one of the next productions to be produced by his label . However, no one expected it to take so long to get started.
Especially since the Covid-19 pandemic did not seem to affect the implementation of this production so far. For example, due to the fact that Blade’s story is not closely related to the rest of the Marvel world and changes in the implementation of other studio projects would not have had such an impact on it. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter,
Marvel is taking its time with Blade, whose production has been postponed from September to July 2022 so that the label can spend more time on the script written by Stacy Osei-Kuffour.
So, as we know, the script of the above-mentioned production will be the responsibility of a screenwriter already known for her participation in the production of the Watchmen series . The main role will be Mahershala Ali – a two-time Oscar winner, but the director is still unknown. He has still not been selected, although the MCU is said to care about a dark-skinned creator.
It will not be the first Blade’s story presented on the big screen. The previous installment of the film is the entire series in which the role of the vampire hunter was played by another famous actor, Wesley Snipes. The new film will differ from the previous adaptation, as Mahershala Ali himself assured, describing it as darker.
Blade production start date is known , but a release date has yet to be announced. It will probably fall out in the second half of 2023 at the earliest.
