Black Panther: Wakanda in My Heart begins shortly after the departure of King T’Challa – the titular Black Panther . This makes the film, from the very beginning, a meditation on the passing of time and a story about working through mourning after losing a loved one and coming to terms with the past. The death of Chadwick Boseman – the actor playing Black Panther – forced the creators to abandon their previous plans to develop the hero’s story on the big screen and rethink whether this story should be continued at all.
Chad’s departure deeply affected the cast and crew, recalls director Ryan Coogler. – He was to a large extent our artistic partner throughout this project. We spent time together, just the two of us, talking about the direction we wanted to give our characters and this story, the admiration he had for the other characters and the actors who played them.
Ultimately, however, the developers decided to continue the legacy of Black Panther , but they did so with due respect for the death of their colleague and collaborator.
We felt that the only right way for us was to continue this story,” Coogler continues.
Producer Nate Moore adds:
We felt that Chad wouldn’t want the world of Wakanda and the impact this film had on children to be forgotten. On an emotional level, I felt letting go would be easier, but it wouldn’t be right.
Making the decision to continue the story also gave the opportunity to talk about death and the experience of loss in a way that has so far been unavailable for any other production from the MCU universe. Reality mixes with fiction here, and in the mourning for the king that the characters experience on the screen, we see glimpses of real sadness brought to the actors by the death of a colleague from the set.
Just as those closest to T’Challa struggle to cope with their experience, new threats emerge. Western powers are trying to gain access to vibranium resources at all costs. It turns out that in addition to Wakanda, this precious resource is also in possession of the mysterious underwater kingdom of Talokan. Its leader Namor offers Wakanda an alliance to fight Western civilization. But while Shuri and Queen Ramonda share Namor’s concerns, they cannot agree to the solution he proposes. An unreached agreement will become a bone of contention and will open up an extensive thread of conflicts between the kingdoms and the rest of the world.

Black Panther: Wakanda in My Heart is also a return to the characters we know well from the previous installment of the film. Queen Ramonda, who comes to the fore after the loss of her husband and son, plays a double role here – a queen with a firm hand and a loving mother. An extremely important layer of the story is her relationship with her daughter – Princess Shuri – the sister of the late king. Motherhood is another important topic here.

The continuation of Black Panther is therefore an extremely successful development of the legacy of the previous film. Perfectly coping with maintaining the continuity of the narrative, shifting the emphasis to characters that have so far been secondary and introducing a completely new character from the world of comics – Namor. All with typical Marvel, full of momentum and special effects fight scenes, to the accompaniment of excellent music written by Ludwig Göransson (Oscar ® winner for the score for Black Panther ), sets by Hanna Beachler (also Oscar ® winner for Black Panther ) and costumes by Ruth E. Carter (another Oscar ® winner for her contributions toBlack Panther ). This makes Wakanda in my heart not only a story about dying, or a story of a fantastic kingdom and all the political problems it may face, but it is also a sensational, multidimensional spectacle that you want to watch over and over again.
Black Panther : Wakanda in My Heart opens in theaters on November 11. In Poland, it was seen by over 600,000 viewers. It will be released on Blu-ray™ and DVD on February 9.
