Three years have passed since the events on Glenlyon, when Rob Geary and Mele Darcy led a hastily organized military force to repel an attack on their colony. However, the hard-fought conflict erupts again when Glenlyon tries to establish a trade route.
An isolated, lonely colony places its hopes on informal deals with other worlds facing a similar threat. Yet worlds staunchly defending their independence are not easy to convince to commitments of this kind. As politicians struggle to make a formal deal, Geary and Darcy must once again take a desperate fight to protect their home in the hope that they will hold on until help arrives. If any help comes at all.
