Another DC movie - Birds of the Night - will be shown on the screens of cinemas . It is the second title in the history of fictional films based on comic books by this publisher to receive the R age category. Many of you may have never heard of the title group of heroines (except maybe Harley Quinn). Therefore, it is worth taking a look at a few of the most important characters.
Birds of Prey
Let’s start with the team. Birds of Prey (as the original name sounds like) is a female superhero team (which occasionally also included Hawk – Dove’s partner) appearing in several American comic series since 1996. The idea behind the creation of this band was to show the mutual relations between Black Canary and Barbara Gordon. The latter, after being shot by the Joker, began to fight evil as an informant and computer scientist confined to a wheelchair, assuming the code name Oracle. They were the core of the team for a long time. Later, the team underwent various modifications and expanded with additional superheroes. The female heroin group was initially based in Gotham City, and later also operated in Metropolis and Platinum Flats, California.
After Black Canary’s departure, Huntress remained the staple member and leader of the group. After Flashpoint and the reboot of the main storyline, Barbara also left the group for a while, because she regained her fitness and thus the identity of Batgirl. And with another reset in 2016, Birds of Prey began re-creating the squad’s backbones, including Batgirl, Black Canary and Huntress. The female group occasionally benefited from the support of male leotards such as Nightwing, Wildcat, Savant and Creote.
Harley Quinn
I think this lady needs no introduction. The longtime partner of the main clown from Gotham, she has already presented herself many times on TV screens, comic book cards, computer monitors, and in 2016 in cinemas. The crazy psychiatrist Harleen Quinzel is not exactly an antagonist. Rather, she is a type of anti-heroine who, depending on the circumstances and humor, helps or upsets. The New 52 series even tried to make it the equivalent of Deadpool in DC. It is also worth adding that Harleen in the comics did not belong to Birds of Prey, but to Gotham City Sirens – another organization connecting DC heroines.
The latest film, however, tells the story of Harley after breaking up with the Joker. Where can we read about it? In the comic books of the New 52 series , namely in Suicide Squad # 1, Batman # 1 and Harley Quinn # 25 (only the former was not released on the Polish market in collective editions).
These are not complete stories, but they do provide an insight into Harley Quinn’s life after her relationship with her beloved ends. In Suicide Squad # 1, we see poor Harley go into a murderous frenzy after the Joker disappears. In Batman # 13, Joker’s beloved joins forces with him for a while, but sees that this relationship does not make sense. The episode culminates in Harley Quinn # 25, when the two former lovers come face to face again, and it all ends in unbridled violence from both sides.
