“Between Us Elements” now on DVD!

In the most watched animation since Frozen 2 , Disney and Pixar present Elemental and its unusual inhabitants, representing the worlds of Fire, Water, Earth and Air! Iskra – a decisive, smart and temperamental girl, makes friends with the cheerful and carefree Wodek. This knowledge makes her begin to doubt the rules that govern their world. The Elements Between Us is now available on DVD.

 

It’s easy to imagine fire as an emotional outburst, or analyze the whole range of emotions that a gust of wind can express. A cheerful bouquet of flowers can brighten the day of a lonely pot of soil, and sometimes the water can be calm and sometimes choppy. Director Peter Sohn reflects:

What if all the elements around us were really alive?

In Between Us Elements, we get to know a unique city – Żywiołowo. Together with Iskra and Wodek, we immerse ourselves in all its shades and emotions that are hidden in the expression of each of the four elements present here. This type of multiculturalism is a perfect metaphor in which many older and younger viewers can easily find themselves and their own experiences.

The latest Disney and Pixar animation also touches on the topic of growing up, shaping one’s own identity and making important life choices in a non-obvious way. In this respect, it is the spiritual successor to another great hit – Inside Out .

Sohn admits that the story he wrote is very personal to him, and it began with a simple drawing of the characters Fire and Water interacting with each other. He imagined an unexpected friendship between them – a relationship that was sure to cause awkwardness, much banter and many funny situations:

I started thinking about my relationship with my wife – I’m Korean, she’s American, half-Italian. My parents emigrated from Korea a few years before I was born, in the early 1970s, so I was born and raised in Korean culture and traditions, but in a very American New York. This caused a lot of cultural friction throughout my life.

Similarly, Iskra is a representative of the second generation of immigrants, except that her parents moved from Palinezja to Żywiołów, where the heroine was born and raised. As the director explains:

In the film, she sets out on a journey to understand her own identity and, consequently, face the values ​​passed on to her by her parents.

The most important event in Iskra’s journey is her funny and consequential acquaintance with Wodek:

At first, Iskra hated the city, but Wodek helps her love everything that Żywiołowo has to offer, says Sohn. – We found a way to show her relationship with her city, similar to what I’ve seen in my favorite comedies. This whole situation provides plenty of opportunities for laughter.

The film takes place in a city that combines elements of different environments and shows that opposites do attract.

It’s a comedy full of heart, says producer Denise Ream. – This is a story about the relationship between Fire and Water, between parents and their children, and between all of us and our neighbors who may not look like us. It’s part comedy, part family journey and part culture clash.

Between Us Elements is the latest Disney and Pixar animation and the most frequently watched Disney animation in Polish cinemas in recent years. It made its debut on the big screen on July 14, and will be released on DVD on October 16.
