This week, Electronic Arts shared with fans both good and bad news from the latest Battlefield 2042: cross-play will actually appear in the game, but forced the creators to postpone the beta-tests.
The latest information on Battlefield 2042 was shared in a post from EA, in which a representative of the company EA_Straatford answered a number of different questions that arose in the minds of players after the big game disclosure a few weeks ago. Referring to the beta-testing phase itself, he confirmed that cross-play will actually be implemented into production, but it will generate the need for the studio to test this feature.
Such a decision made us wait longer than initially assumed for the presentation of the newest Battlefield . As the representative of Electronic Arts admitted in the post, it was decided to move the tests from July this year to the second half of this summer. It is still unknown when exactly.
What exactly is this cross-play beta test? This is a great undertaking of the creators of the production and the players themselves – several thousand lucky ones. They will be checking the title together – intentionally not constituting its full version – before its official release. This is best explained by EA_Straatford himself:
It is a feature-only development environment, focused on technical performance.
This means that cross-play in beta testing may not look or function exactly as recipients expected or hoped, as it will not be the final product.
Battlefield 2042 will be released on October 22 this year and will be available on all platforms, including PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. With the proviso that users of older generations of consoles will only be able to play with each other, and not with players of newer consoles and PCs.
