Being a toy is not a game! – review of the movie “Toy Story 4”

Not a drawing anymore, but an animation!

For a few (teen) years old , the 1995 movie Toy Story became a symbol of the latest technology. Advanced use of computer-based plot creation allowed for the creation of an animated production from beginning to end. The fourth part of the adventures of toy characters gathered in the cinema the vast majority of the same viewers who for twenty-four (!) Years smiled at Skinny in front of (perhaps) the same screens. The standard story has been modernized, but the characters… they still amuse us to tears! The creators of the animations (director Josh Cooley, screenwriters Andrew Stanton, Stephany Folsom) are not offering us anything new. The trailer features mostly well-known heroes, and their emotional dilemmas are an important point in the plot.

Pixar and Disney in collaboration once again

Children grow up and at some point no longer need the company of childhood toys. We remember this theme from the Toy Story 3 animation . In the next installment, instead of Andy, the plot focuses on little Bonnie, who becomes the new owner of Skinny, Buzz, Rex, Mr. Tuber and others. During the first day in kindergarten, however, the girl creates her favorite toy herself. The cutlery is made of a plastic fork, pieces of yarn, plasticine and ice cream sticks. Its popularity is growing and now you can buy a variety of talking and infrared-controlled cutlery in stores. In Toy Story 4the creators decided not to continue the idea of ​​passing on toys to younger generations. Rather, they went in the direction of freeing toys from the “regime” of man. As in the second part, the toys experience their own adventures in which a human is present but not necessary for the course of the action.

Love is in the air & friends are friends

The relationship between Skinny and the shepherdess Bo Peep is complicated. When the beautiful heroine (initially a toy of Molly, Andy’s sister) changes her place of residence, the sheriff feels an inner sadness every time. In Toy Story 4Because she is undergoing a transformation – from a polite, arranged shepherdess she turns into a brave, liberated woman. In this part of the series, she is a deuteragonist and her decisions have a significant impact on the plot. Despite the different environments in which Bo and Chudy live now, their relationship is strong. In addition, they maintain very close contact with other toys. Chudy collaborates with his regular friends – Buzz Lightyear, Mr. Bulwa, Rex, and Cienki. Bo Peep spends time with Druh Bang, Giggle and the naughty stuffed animals Kwaku and Bunie. Such a large number of heroes and threads related to them makes it impossible to develop the story of characters who have so far played very important roles in the series, including Buzz Lightyear. Unfortunately, relegating important characters to the background may determine the assessment of the film by some viewers.

 It is terrifying but also fun

An important protagonist of Toy Story 4 is Gabby Gabby. The red-haired doll, dressed in a yellow dress, is filled with jealousy for the happiness of other toys. Since Gabby Gabby has been waiting for her owner for years, she is bitter and desperate. Together with her helpers, who will easily scare many children in the cinema, she decides to kidnap one of the toys. Her action is a stimulus for friends to go to the rescue. Disney offers its viewers an interesting and funny (seriously!) Story. However, it should be remembered that this is part of the series, so completely new audiences may feel lost in the world of toys. Toy Story 4however, it is a very valuable story that can teach the youngest viewers a lot through fictional solutions and simple songs. It’s also worth staying in during the credits, as the creators decided to show a few more funny scenes at the end. As a fan of all the movies in the series, I hope Toy Story 4 is the end of the story. Pixar finished it accordingly.
