Action presented in Stranger Things. Dark mindsbegins in 1969, so a few years before the events known from the series. We follow the fate of Terry Ives, mother of Eleven. As a young student, she starts working in the Hawkins laboratory. However, it is not one of the scientists, but only a research object. Initially, everything is going well. For testing somewhat strange but harmless drugs, the woman gets a pretty good reward. By the way, he meets a group of people with whom he makes friends quickly. In turn, the head of the entire project, Dr. Martin Brenner, seems to be a nice and honest man. However, Terry’s nature instructs her to check more closely what the MKULTRA government experiment she is participating in is. She quickly learns that not everything is legal here, and that her and her friends’ lives are in danger. However, it may be too late to escape.

Reaching for the book Stranger Things. Dark mindsdidn’t see what to expect. As a fan of the series, I was counting on an interesting story and atmosphere straight from the Netflix production. On the other hand, however, I knew that such titles are written “fast” and on the wave of popularity of the production only to attract fans and earn a little more. In this case, it turned out that I am dealing with the number one option. Gwenda Bond did a great job. You can see that she had to trace all the episodes herself and had an idea of ​​what she wanted to write. First of all, she brilliantly showed us the main characters, Terry Ives and Dr. Brenner. Here we get to know the characters and relationships that both characters known from the series had before they appeared on the screen. The reader can observe their development and changes that take place in them throughout the history. The author has not forgotten about the dense and dark atmosphere that surrounds us from everywhere. The Hawkins Lab is gloomy indeed, full of intrigue and mystery. At times, we feel as if we are alone in the building and we are afraid to see what is waiting for us around the corner. We won’t meet the Demogorgon here, but it’s even better that the shivers go down our spine for completely different reasons.

Tylko dla fanów?

Nie da się ukryć, że Stranger Things. Mroczne umysły to pozycja skierowana przede wszystkim do miłośników serialu. To właśnie osoby znające cała historię najlepiej zrozumieją, o co czym mowa w prequelu. Czy po książkę mogą sięgnąć osoby nieznające produkcji Netflixa? Jak najbardziej! Jeśli ktoś lubi zawiłe intrygi, mroczny klimat, tajemnice i do tego nadnaturalne moce to z pewnością ta pozycja przypadnie mu do gustu. W końcu mamy tu zaledwie dwójkę bohaterów znanych z serialu, a cała akcja rozgrywa się przed historią znaną z ekranu. Całkiem prawdopodobne, że ktoś wciągnie się w fabułę na tyle, że będzie chciał poznać jej ciąg dalszy. A wtedy wystarczy obejrzeć serial.

Ideał?

W Stranger Things. Mroczne umysły czytelnik dostaje wciągającą fabułę, świetnie wykreowanych bohaterów i mnóstwo tajemnic. Po książkę sięgnąć mogą zarówno fani serialu, jak i osoby z nią nie związane. Czy to czyni z tej pozycji ideał? Niestety nie. Największym minusem tytułu jest zbyt powolna akcja. Zdarzają się momenty, w których praktycznie nic się nie dzieje, a akcja stoi w miejscu. Dostajemy też kilka wątków pobocznych, niezwiązanych z głównymi wydarzeniami. Wielka szkoda, bo czasami aż chce się pominąć kilka kartek, aby wrócić do tego, co najbardziej nas interesuje. Zbytnie rozwlekanie sprawia, że momentami wieje nudą. Na szczęście zwroty akcji oraz zachowania bohaterów rekompensują nam momenty mniej ciekawe. Ostatecznie należy więc stwierdzić, że dostajemy całkiem ciekawą pozycję i możemy się cieszyć, że wydawnictwo Poradnia K zdecydowało się na wydanie książki w naszym kraju.
