Wallis Day known for Krypton, The Royals was cast as a revised version of Kate Kane, played in the first season of Batwoman by Ruby Rose. We also know that it will appear in the second half of the second season. A while back, Batwoman showrunner Caroline Dries told EW that she didn’t want to switch the role of Kate right away when Rose left the show in May because there was no compelling story-based reason why her appearance could change between seasons. Now that we know the ending of episode 9, we can see that the creators have coped with this problem perfectly. Caroline Dries confirmed cooperation with a new team member immediately after the end of the segment
Wallis Day will play our revised version of Kate Kane, and she is an amazing actress.
It was producer Greg Berlanti who helped Caroline decide on this character by saying:
You know, I think we should just reboot the character when it comes to rebooting Batwoman as a different character. Just to respect everything Ruby [Rose] has put into the character of Kate Kane as well.
Left Wallis Day and right Ruby Rose
While we thought Kate would be definitely dead in the show world, in the final minutes of Episode 9, we see a bandaged woman hiding in the basement of a Gotham barbershop on screen. Her red necklace, matching Alice’s, tells us she is Kate. Fans will surely be excited and curious to see what Day brings to the character and how her return will affect the current Batwoman, Ryan Wilder (Javicia Leslie). Caroline Dries revealed in an interview with EW what we can expect next:
When Kate comes back, and when they find out, her [Ryan] confidence will get a little tarnished and she’ll start wondering, “Where am I?” And yes, while the city believes in her wholeheartedly, Ryan will go through his own journey learning to believe in himself, and that’s something we’ll focus on later in Season 2.
The series about Batwoman airs on Sunday on The CW.
