James Gunn and Peter Safran take over at DC Studios. Batman Beyond in development. Will we see a new animated movie?
The DC Universe has gone through many changes in recent years. James Gunn and Peter Safran took over the reins at DC Studios . Late last month, the duo revealed their first ten projects that will be part of their new DC Universe roadmap, in addition to standalone Elseworlds projects like The Batman Part II and Joker: Folie a Deux. There has been much speculation about other upcoming projects. A new rumor sheds light on one of the earlier possibilities. According to Jeff Sneider’s The Hot Mic podcast , the animated film Batman 20 Years Later was developed while Walter Hamada was running DC (according to 2019 rumors). This would be DC’s response toSpider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Unfortunately, it is unclear whether this project is still being actively developed under Gunn and Safran.
The following project was commissioned by Walter Hamada. As far as I know, it has never been reported before. It is currently in development in DC. These guys might be called in next week or so. This is a project I heard was never submitted and there are many drafts of it. Fast 9 writer Daniel Casey wrote Batman Beyond , but the catch wasn’t that it was live-action, because that’s what Christina Hodson [was working on]. [It was] the animated Batman 20 Years Later , which was supposed to be DC’s answer to Into the Spider-Verse .

It is the second Batman Beyond project said to be in the works in the previous DC era, with Birds of Prey and Christina Hodson of The Flash. Michael Keaton would return as Bruce Wayne as Batman and Michelle Pfeiffer as Selina Kyle as Catwoman.
What’s on the DC Universe board?
As revealed by Gunn and Safran, DC Studios’ starting slate for Gods and Monsters will feature Superman: Legacy, The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Swamp Thing, and The Authority. There will also be HBO television shows Max Waller, Booster Gold, Lanterns, Paradise Lost , and the animated series Creature Commandos .
