Director James Cameron still has to finish two sequels to Avatar , but it looks like he’s already started working on a fourth film. During an interview with Variety , executive producer Jon Landau revealed that they actually did a lot of material for Avatar 4 already .
We prepared most of Avatar 4 ‘s first act , and there were logistical reasons for that. We’ve designed practically the entire movie, but we haven’t done anything yet – just the first act.
Cameron has been developing sequels for his biggest blockbuster movie for over a decade. The studio has announced four sequels of Avatar , two of which are already filmed, and the other two will await box office results. The director had to shoot both sequels due to the conditions of the scenes that were to be included in the films. Last year, Cameron explained to Variety why he was recording this way.
We mixed the schedules for two and three into one, depending on the types of scenes and scenery. I told us to treat it as if it was a six hour miniseries and we only go to Frankfurt once. We will then shoot all the scenes from the second and third parts at the same time. That was more or less the reason. The availability of actors was also the reason. We recorded everything that was supposed to be done with a given actor for two and three – and a little for four.
