Attention, a demon on the loose! – review of the book “The Moon City” VOL. I

A place where the high-ranking Fae fraternizes with shapeshifters, vampires do dirty deals, Archangels shake the city, and the Fallen command legions to keep order. Sarah J. Maas once again introduces the reader to a magical world full of strange creatures and hot romance.

Well, from the beginning!

I had the opportunity to get acquainted with the author of “The Moon City” before, which certainly influenced my very high expectations for the book. Have they been satisfied? Yes and no.

Bryce Quinlan leads a busy life. She works as an assistant in an art gallery by day, and party at night. She is carefree, her problems are mostly focused on choosing a drink or powder, and she often chooses guys. Together with her best friend Danika, she plays until she drops out and arouses controversy. What more can you ask for?

Hunt Athalar has made some trouble in his life. Bound by the duty to atone for his guilt, with a thorny crown tattooed on his forehead to keep his enormous power in check, he is forced to fulfill the tasks assigned by the governor. What’s in it? Hope he will be able to regain his freedom.

Beware!

As you know, demons are not good creatures, and they can do a lot of damage when left alone. Especially if someone summons such a demon to punish you with it.

When the first murder occurs in Moon City, Bryce’s life changes by one hundred and eighty degrees. When she is obliged to track down the perpetrator, the adventure begins. Hunt, on the other hand, gets an offer he cannot refuse – he will be released from the slave oath if he and Quinlan find the guilty party.

A storm of text

First of all, from the very beginning we are inundated with numerous descriptions. At first, the action seems to take place rather slowly, instead there is a ton of proper names, names and places. At some point, I started to get lost a bit because there were simply too many of them.

If you’ve read any of the Maas series before, you may notice that he is duplicating his character creation scheme here. The difference is that they are more vulgar in this novel. That’s it.

The idea for the plot is original, the author managed to combine the crime story with a fantasy novel in a nice way, which is a pleasant breeze of freshness. Although the beginning seems a bit difficult to get through in my opinion, the further we go, the more we are drawn to the book.

summarizing

When asked if it is worth reading, I would say yes. Sarah J. Maas has a whole lot of supporters and although it is not always safe to say that this is a piece of the best literature, it cannot be denied that she can arouse emotions in the reader and thus encourage him to read the book to the end.

Nasza ocena: 8.5/10

The combination of fantasy, crime and romance means that almost everyone will find something for themselves. There is nothing to procrastinate!
