Another special missions – review of the comic book “Uncanny X-Force: Another World”, vol. 3

Wolverine’s special task force still has their hands full. What will be waiting for the heroes belonging to the X-Force group in the third volume? Let’s find out!

Four stories

Uncanny X-Force: Another World has been divided into three stories. The first is a direct continuation of the second volume. An alternate version of Nightcrawler joins the team, and the team moves to Otherworld, where they have to face a real challenge. On the one hand, the gates of this place are forced by hostile forces led by the mighty Goat – the evil necromancer-demon. If this villain conquered the world here, also known as the omniverse, the existence of all realities would be jeopardized. In addition, the local Corps of Captains of Britain intends to conduct a trial on a team member Fantomex, and at the same time wants to re-incorporate Psylock into its ranks.

Then we get a short scene where the heroes fight the wrong version of Iceman. Since Bobby is, or rather was, their close friend, they have some hesitance to kill him. Nightcrwaler in particular has to face himself and make difficult decisions.

Surprisingly, the third story does not concern the title band at all, but takes us to one of the alternative realities. It is so interesting that many known X-Men are devoid of power here, while most people are mutants. By the way, such heroes as Sabertooth and Magneto are on the side of good. There are a few other upside down situations, but I don’t want to reveal too much to you. Read on for yourself!

The fourth story is part of the Fear Itself event , in which the Asgardian God of Fear has been released, and the inhabitants of the Earth face their greatest fears. Many people think superheroes are to blame for the situation, and they think they attract bad guys like a magnet. Some even crusade them. It is these people that our team must take care of from the “black job”.

Inequalities …

Several writers and cartoonists are responsible for the third volume of Uncanny X-Force . To the title Other WorldRick Remender and Greg Tocchini are taking us. And, unfortunately, it must be admitted that this is the weakest story we can find in this volume. Although the fact that in the omniverse we can meet unicorns, fairies or dragons may be somehow intriguing, the villain himself is quite interesting and unusual, and the final twist is surprising, the whole thing is hard to read. This is for several reasons. On the one hand, too much is happening, on the other hand, the plot is carried out very quickly, as if someone had been limited and had to fit everything into a few pages. The frames, in which we also have too many events and we do not know exactly what is happening there, also do not help. It’s a pity, because the potential was here, but not properly used.

It’s still better. Two short stories proposed by Phil Noto and Billy Tan surprise and allow us to look at the internal dilemmas of the characters. This further highlights the relationship of a squad that knows they have to get their hands dirty because no one else will. At least that’s what the Iceman story is like. Moving to an alternative world, on the other hand, is an unconventional solution in the “What if …” genre. It is impossible to underestimate him. The only problem here may be that it doesn’t have much to do with X-Force.

I must admit that I liked the story told in Fear Itself the most . The team almost gets a free hand there and they make a bloody mess, not going to hold back in any way. So we have a lot of blood and violence. It is fair to cite Wolverine’s famous quote here that “they are the best at what they do, and what they do is not very nice.” The entire chaff was captured in a very realistic way, thanks to the drawings of Simone Bianchi, an artist whose works you may know, for example from Astonishing X-Menpublished in our country by Mucha Comics. And although everything looks good in my eyes, and I had a lot of fun reading, I am also aware of some shortcomings and shortcomings. Well, this is not a surprising story. A simple, typical story about tough guys, strewn with a pile of corpses. In many cases, there isn’t even a greater threat facing the X-Force themselves. And only the actions of religious fanatics can provoke a few reflections.

… i wybye

Uncanny X-Force: Another World came to our market thanks to the Mucha Comics publishing house . Again, we get a hardcover copy, in which, apart from the stories themselves, we find several alternative covers or concept sketches. The cover itself was made in such a way as to connect with the previous volumes, and their sides created a picture of the title team in the set. It should also be mentioned that the album has slightly fewer pages than its predecessors, but is also cheaper than them, so we should not complain. We can stick to the fact that one of the stories does not concern the main team. Besides, Fear Itself is located before the events of the Archangel Agewhich can be confusing. In addition, it is a fragment of a larger Marvel event, about which we only get a brief mention. A little more information would be needed for the reader to know more precisely what he is actually reading.

The team makes it!

The third volume of Uncanny X-Force is story-driven at best. Better stories are intertwined with worse stories, and the times in which they take place have been very mixed up, which can lead to perception problems. You can also have a few reservations about the graphics, especially in the first part of the album, where too many things are happening in the frames. The heroes themselves are the biggest plus here. Each of them gets their five minutes, a chance to prove themselves, and their character traits are perfectly visible. The creators perfectly conveyed the relations between the characters. The Wolverine-Deadpool duo are in the lead here. I hope (and I do not even doubt it) that the gentlemen will be shown on the big screen by Jackman and Rynolds in a similar way. And if it does, it’s the new Deadpoolit will surely turn out to be a hit!

Nasza ocena: 6/10

There are shortcomings and shortcomings, but there is also plenty of fun! What spoils the plot is made up by heroes!
