Another jump through the portal – review of the game “Munchkin 6.5 – Dangerous Tombs”

Munchkin is certainly one of the most popular card games available on the Polish market. So that the group of its fans does not diminish and players do not get bored, Black Monk still offers us more additions. This time they are the Terrible Tombs .

Unusual RPG

Every fan of board games knows what Munchkin is. For the less initiated, however, a few words of explanation should be given. It is a card game in which we play the role of the title munchkin, i.e. a dwarf man. We start our adventure with the first level, and our task is to reach the tenth. At the beginning, we will have to choose a few cards that will define some of our features and provide us with equipment that is helpful during the game. Along the way, we will have to kill monsters and gain treasures that will help us grow in strength. It is not only us that will want to win. The game can be played by three to six players and each of them wants to be the best. Therefore, our (until recently) friends will do everything to make our lives difficult. They will throw more enemies at our feet without much resistance and make them stronger. You should therefore review your own assortment and try to plan your next move, which will not be easy, as the game is characterized by a lot of randomness. So that we don’t get bored, publishers keep creating new versionsMunchkin . Most of them refer to the world of pop culture and parody it. We got, among others Munchkin from the Caribbean , Munchkin Cthulhu , Munchkin Impossible or Good, Bad and Munchkin . However, each of the versions was the basis, which differed in the types of monsters and treasures. All editions can also be combined and mixed. For variety, also introduced new types of cards. Among them we can find, among others Dungeons and Portals that are available in the Terrible Tombs.

Come to the dungeon. Again!

If you want to play Munchkin 6.5 – The Terrible Tombs then you have to remember that this is an expansion pack and you will still need one of the core versions. However, you do not need to buy its earlier version, i.e. Munchkin 6 – Possessed Dungeons , although both additions can be freely mixed with each other and added to the base.

Of course, most of the rules remain the same. We still get our munchkin, level it with it, get equipment, fight monsters and make life difficult for other players. Thanks to the Dangerous Tombs , however, we receive two new types of cards – Dungeons and Portals (people who dealt with the Possessed Dungeonshave already known them). The first one is chosen randomly at the beginning of the game and replaced during the course of the game, according to the rules described on the cards. Dungeons can both help us and make the game more difficult. Some of them give a lot of bonuses to our munchkin, but also to rivals. Others, on the other hand, strengthen monsters. Here, too, it can have an impact on us, but also on our opponents. So it is a lottery in which a lot depends on a blind fate. The second type of cards, Portals, is drawn like the other cards. When we find one, we have to follow the description presented on it. Thanks to them, we will have to reject, replace or add Dungeons. In addition, we may also get a bonus in the form of a promotion to the next level or a free treasure selection.

Creators still in shape

Steve Jackson is the creator of munchkin games, and John Kovalic is responsible for the drawings. In our country, its publisher is Black Monk. Once again, everyone who has a hand in this card game deserves a big applause. The author offered us a very interesting idea that will diversify our gameplay even more. The cartoonist used well-known, but loved by players and funny graphics depicting munchkins and their enemies. The Polish publisher, in turn, again rose to the occasion and translated the original texts on the cards in a way that makes it impossible not to smile. It was probably not straightforward. It is known that the literal translation of an English joke will not be fun for us. That’s why a wordplay was created and we got the stinking Kalkaz Mountains, a zombie-filled Pool of Stinks, or a mountain-climber who has just reached Thieves’ Summit . In addition to the game, there is a lot of watching, reading, and most importantly – laughing.

Time for an adventure

Munchkin 6.5 – The Terrible Tombs is another successful addition to the popular and popular card game. While the type of cards we’ve already learned in the Possessed Dungeons , they’ve been well received by players so it’s no wonder we’re getting more of them. This way the game will be even more interesting. The rules are simple and we should have no problem mastering them. Once again, the publishers were up to the task, showing us the munchkins themselves in a comical way and served funny descriptions. So if you already have the basis for the game and you like it, then there is no need to wonder. It is worth investing in the latest addition to the series.
