During a UK television conference in London, Channing Dungey, head of Warner Bros. announced another Harry Potter project . The new series is set to follow in the footsteps of the Harry Potter reunion, which was broadcast on HBO Max, and the competition program Harry Potter: Hogwarts House Tournament hosted by Helen Mirren.
It’s great to see the audience so engaged and ready. Our no-script team did a fantastic HBO special “Return to Hogwarts” last year which had a huge following, and then we did a game show hosted by Helen Mirren. The audience is ready for the news, so we just need to figure out what the right next step is.
Dungey said.
Fantastic Beasts 4 and 5 on hold
According to a Variety report, Warner Bros. Discovery does not develop any Harry Potter films . The publication said there were no “active discussions” between author and creator JK Rowling and Warner Bros. for future movies. This appears to include the ongoing Fantastic Beasts film franchise , which was set to have two more films.
The studio planned five parts, but The Dumbledore Mysteries is likely to be the last in the series. Warner Bros. waited to see how the film fared in sales before getting the green light for the fifth and sixth installments. Mysteries of Dumbledore grossed $405 million worldwide, which was significantly lower than the rest of the franchise.
HBO Max is still interested in Harry Potter
Sarah Aubrey, head of original content for HBO Max, recently confirmed that the streaming service is very committed to creating new projects for these Harry Potter fans and is thinking about what to do next.
We don’t have any series in production right now. But we’re very interested in it because fans just crave more stories.
Aubrey told Variety.
