Together (don’t know) better
Pictures are good with the family – they say. And it is so in this case – Thomas and Peter Rabbit do not get along. The man remembers the bad reputation of an animal friend and cannot accept him as a member of his family. Tense relationships lead to constant conflicts and, consequently, to a catastrophe – the title character escapes from the garden and tries to survive in a strange world where malice is an advantage, not a defect. The creators of film adventures about the rabbit are inspired by the stories for children by Beatrix Potter, the originator of the unruly but hit title character. The team, however, enriches the proposal with situational jokes and slapstick humorous elements, which worked in favor of the first film version. How it is this time, you will find out later in the review.

Cast and what’s next?
Rose Byrne (Bea), Domhnall Gleeson (Thomas McGregor), and David Oyelowo (Nigel Basil-Jones) did well, considering that the rest of the characters were – how to say – out of the ordinary. Everyone who watched Peter Rabbit in 2018, they know that the main characters of the film are animals. In the first part, the rebellious title character tried to sneak into the vegetable garden owned by the gardener, in the next – the problem is completely different, but nonetheless engaging for the recipient: Bea faces a difficult choice regarding the future, and herbivorous friends decide to organize a jump to a vegetable stall. The sound and assembly studio Start International Polska is responsible for dubbing, and at this point I would like to praise, among others, Szymon Roszak, Przemysław Stippa and Agnieszka Fajlhauer for their great commitment to production. However, I have reservations about the translation – some of the jokes in the Polish language version not only did not raise a smile on the lips, but also caused embarrassment and distraction in the adult recipient.

A movie only for children?
It cannot be denied that the characters are consciously exaggerated by the director and experience grotesquely dangerous adventures. Such mechanisms are characteristic of the movie comedy slapstick. As the plot of Peter Rabbit is not entirely consistent, the creators decided to fill it with random inserts, gags (you will see, among others, a fox that starts jogging …). The characters are likeable, but it would seem that they are liked mainly by younger viewers, who remember the quality of the first part of the adventures about the rabbit and have positive memories of the screening. Adults are unlikely to be satisfied after seeing Will Gluck’s offer, but there is a chance that they might smile – at least once, please !
We would like to thank the Cinema City network for the opportunity to watch the movie Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway!
