Corporate horror
Sasha became friends with the rich man Danilov, he met a girl, so he felt it was time to become independent. To this end, he stole the entire great industrial complex of Baryszewo – how to operate it is on a grand scale. How could he know that how Wysocki with Kaczmarski would end up in hell? Whether it will be the “eighth circle in which there is nothing left” remains to be seen, for now, let’s go.
Mykola found the cover of the second volume of Sybirpunk not by accident. It will become the basis for the proper functioning of Sasha’s company, and at some point the last oasis of peace in the sea of… unrest about everything. First things first. Because everything looks great at the very beginning!
Sasha works as a bodyguard for his blue oligarch. Work can be demanding, but the boy feels that they have good contact with Danilov, that they are important to each other. For such a mentor, it’s worth getting enough sleep, right? Pick up bruises and stuff. Anyway, our enterprising hero doesn’t get too much sleep, because he does two shifts. After all, he has to look after Baryszew, so he sticks to gajerek and pretends to listen to financiers and directors of various levels. Everyone agrees that modernization is the key to development, and the purer the synth, the closer it is to wealth. Lawsuits from the “owners” of the establishment claiming to be robbed (who were actually supposed to benefit from the scam to which Skinny was hired) is, after all, a small matter. And that Sasha will blow up the doormat from time to time? Not that kind of thing …
Everything is connected together
Holistic philosophy is also useful in NeoSybirsk. The Bermuda Triangle of Sasha’s new life – Daniłow, Baryszewo and finally Olga – determines the speed and fury of Skinny. There are more and more of them, and the sharp angles begin to hurt him in the part of his body that he is leaning on his new bike. From day to day it turns out that rich people believe very much in social classes rather than in brotherhood in arms. Synta is hard to sell. And the girl? Pistol, but something here too many coincidences. Remember the red hornet that followed Sasha in the previous volume? Doesn’t Olga have one by any chance? And isn’t there too much of a sudden association with his latest detective case in Skinny’s new life?
It is not for this that Sasha is tough and appreciates male friendship to break down easily. He is not going on the rope alone yet, but it may turn out that he has got into similar problems as “poor Vanya” and luck will stop smiling at him. In this volume of Sybirpunk, there will be crony and squishy, but a bit desperate. Gołkowski writes about inequalities, wild capitalism straight from the 1990s, disrespect and terrible poverty. Skinny is down, and we are with him. It remains for us to read and trust that he will go to the next volume with the shield, not on it.
In the first volume of Sybirpunk, we saw the ecological defeat of NeoSybirsk, but also its great promises. Now we are moving towards fear and disgust. It was about nature, it is about civilization and human relations. As the icing on the cake, we will get a great battle involving truly epic cyborgs. You will read this volume slower than the previous one, maybe you will get tired of the “byznes” mood, maybe you will see yourself or your parents in it in the last decade of the 20th century. For me, the stress of Chudy and his chases around the cyberpunk city were quite… stressful. And maybe that was it. Feel the future; it will be very, very annoying.
