Egmont Publishing House is constantly trying to fill the gap for comics for the youngest. This time it launched the title with an eight-year-old heroine in the lead role on the Polish market.
Nola has lost her mother and she and her father are trying to recover from the incident. The girl is sad and misses her mother, so she enthusiastically accepts her gift – a music box. However, he is surprised to discover that this is not a normal playing gadget. Looking closer, you can see a little girl inside, asking for help. Nola, following the stranger’s advice, decides to turn the key on the side of the object and unexpectedly shrinks so that she can enter the music box. Inside the object, it turns out that she is surrounded by an unknown, magical land, and the character who brought her there knows her mother’s name.
This is how a new adventure begins
The land of Pandoria is the responsibility of a duo – a French screenwriter and author of books and comics for children under the pseudonym Carbone, together with the graphic artist Gije born in the Democratic Republic of Congo. As a result of their cooperation, we have the opportunity to read the first volume of an interesting series, the main character of which is a grieving girl. Although the first volume is not the thickest, some information can be learned from it. Nola seems quite ordinary and normal (no superpowers), and her reactions to the sudden presence of a fantasy world in a music box are quite human. He does not go over everything, he only asks questions, is surprised and shows his usual weaknesses. In addition, the comic shows mainly energetic and nice music box siblings – Andrea and Igor. The kids are trying to save their sick mom into which they also involve the main character. Together, the crew conducts a small investigation while showing the newcomer where they live.
Hello guys!
The plot in the comic book Welcome to Pandoria is simple, but at the same time very nice and logical. It is definitely just an introduction to the next events and for an adult reader it may seem even boring, but I suspect that children will like the idea of a sudden transfer from the normal world to a fantastic land full of strange creatures. In addition, the characters experience a whole range of emotions that can be shared by younger readers – pain and longing after the loss, fear of the unknown, excitement and surprise with new things, and even anger (a mysterious opponent appears in the comic book).
Secrets can be extremely colorful
Reading the Music Box , I remembered reading Czarolina . It is another beautifully published and drawn comic book. The illustrations have something of the aesthetics of dreams and memories, as they do not have strong and sharp edges. Working with light also plays an important role. It is rather dark in the buildings, only the characters generate bright accents. The colors well emphasize the atmosphere of each scene, and also perfectly reflect the fact that there is some magic in Pandoria.
I feel curious
Although I am not the target group, I read this comic with interest and I will be happy to read the next parts. At the moment, it looks like an interesting title for younger readers, nicely published and delightful with aesthetics.
