We make true friends in poverty
A Place on a Broomstick is a story written by a duo of creators responsible for creating the award-winning Gruffalo title. Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler have already proved that they can create interesting stories dedicated to children. The plot of the story is quite simple. While flying on a broomstick, the witch loses more pieces of her equipment, and her new animal friends help her find them. Everyone gets on a broomstick as well, until the object fails and breaks, causing the entire crew to get into trouble. You have to read for yourself about how they deal with them.
This is my first encounter with the works of Julia Donaldson, so I cannot say whether this book is better or worse compared to other works of this writer. However, I am pleased to say that The Place on the Broom is cute. History has been written in a light language. Thanks to the rhyming form, it easily enters the head and is even remembered after reading it several times. The best thing about it, however, is the positive message that if we are good to others, they will repay the same and may even become our friends.
Even a witch can be pretty!
Describing your feelings after reading the adventures of the witch and her group of friends, it is impossible not to mention the graphic side. Axel Scheffer not only created friendly-looking characters, but also filled this small world, described on only 28 pages, with beautiful colors. When we add a large format and a hardcover to it, we get a really nice and carefully published children’s item.
Career witch
A place on a broomstick is not only the book itself! Encouraged by reading, I decided to look for more information on the Internet. It turned out that an animation based on that story was created and it was even nominated for an Oscar (it’s available on YouTube)! There is also an English website where you can find a pack of additional witch-related materials (games, nursery rhymes, printable mask, etc.). So you can secure your children in a whole package of activities based on this single title.
