Fans of JRR Tolkien’s trilogy are eagerly awaiting the games full of new adventures for heroes from Middle-earth. From the list, we can delete the item from Amazon.
In 2019, Amazon announced that it would be working on The Lord of the Rings MMO with Leyou Technologies, which was a Tencent owned studio. Almost two years after the project was announced, we had no information on the game, but now Amazon has spoken out and canceled the project altogether. According to a new Bloomberg report, Amazon Game Studios has officially discontinued production of The Lord of the Rings :
We love The Lord of the Rings and are disappointed not to deliver this game to customers
The initial plans assumed that the simulation was to be free and released on both PC and consoles. Behind the scenes problems prevented the game from developing to the point that it has now faced a fall. It seems that the reason for canceling the project was Tencent’s involvement in the project. The Chinese mega-conglomerate acquired Leyou Technologies for $ 1.5 billion at the end of 2020, meaning the company then became associated with the Lord of the Rings game . The two companies have been negotiating with each other since then and apparently failed to reach an agreement.
Another noteworthy Amazon project is New World . This will be another (hopefully successful) attempt to make a hit PC game. The tech giant has had tough times so far: the Crucible competitive shooter was released, unpublished then canceled, the Breakaway brawl was canceled for many players before leaving the alpha. The premiere of the game is planned for August 31, 2021.
When it comes to The Lord of the Rings in the gaming space, there are other upcoming titles set in the world of Middle-earth, one of them being The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. This is probably one of the most anticipated games in which we play the title character. The decisions we make will make our hero fight two personalities: Sméagol and Gollum.
