All’s well that ends reasonably well – review of the comic book “Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge: The second secret of the old castle”

Don Rosa’s comic book collection about the adventures of the Disney Ducks has come to an end. I must admit that I am saying goodbye to this series with great sadness, because I have already discovered all of Master Rosa’s comics, and on the other hand, I am happy that I managed to collect them to the end.

Cover collision

The title story is one of the best that has been written about Scrooge, showing his contacts with his younger sister Matilda. The plot takes place some 25 years after the siblings last saw each other, and a family conflict separated the Scrooge from the whole family. Although the axis of the comic book focuses on the treasure hidden by the Templars within the walls of the McKwacz castle, it leads to something completely unexpected – the confession of Scrooge to his sister, in which he confronts his own difficult past, filled with loneliness, sometimes greed and stubbornness. At heart, however, the Scrooge is a character who loves his family above all else and wants the best for her. The comic book I am reviewing is one of the most touching stories that have been written about a duck family. On the other hand, I have to blame thatEgmont did not take care of the title cover and cut off the Templar’s arm, however, most likely it was dictated by placing the series’ inscription in such a way that it was legible, or it is a simple misprint.

Marco Rota has the last word

The last comic in this collection is from 2015. It is a short four-page story about how Scrooge came to Denmark for the Comic Book Festival with Don Rosa as a special guest. The story was written by Danish screenwriter Thomas Schroder and drawn by Marco Rota – another duck comic book writer. As it turns out, Scrooge was one of the special guests and was followed by Magika De Czar to steal the precious dime. How did this story end? See for yourself, I can only add that the town of Rudentarn, where the action takes place, was presented quite faithfully.

Is it the end or is it the beginning?

In addition to the above-mentioned stories, in the volume I reviewed, we will also learn about the second meeting with the Black Knight, we will experience another adventure with the Three Caballeros , this time on Brazilian soil, and we will also see another reprint of the comic book Prisoner of the Valley of the White Death , which is Rosa’s last work in ducks. . A large addition is also a whole group of anniversary covers that appeared on foreign markets. In general, I can only summarize that Don Rosa kept a beautiful drawing style from the beginning to the end, and took care of beautiful comic book boards and interesting stories. I am glad that I could spend these unforgettable moments with the ducklings.
