The Hollywood Reporter website, citing its sources, announced that Alfred Molina would play Otto Octavius again, better known as Doctor Octopus. He will return to that role in the third Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland in the title role. The first rumors about Molina’s participation in this project appeared at the end of November this year, when it was spotted on the production plan.
This is the second actor from previous Spider-Man adaptations to return to his old role. Jamie Foxx, mentioned earlier, played Electro for the first time in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 . He, too, has become the source of rumors about two other potential returns. In an Instagram post, Foxx hinted that more than just one Spider Man will appear in the new video. For now, both Marvel and Sony are silent on whether Toby Maguire or Andrew Garfield will play Peter Perker again.
All this news and rumors lead to a theory very popular among fans that in Spider-Man 3 one of the main plot threads was the collision of characters from parallel worlds. Whether this will actually be the case for the time being is not known, but a few upcoming productions are to be strongly influenced by the so-called multiverse. The WandaVision series and the directly related Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be based on the concept of parallel worlds. Played by Benedict Cumberbatch, the master of magic will become the new mentor of Peter Parker (Tom Holland) and will start working with Wanda Maximoff.
The new Spider-Man movie is set to debut in December next year.
